2017: Fatima Centenary Year

August 26-27: 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Dear Parishioners,

Mr Josip Rukavina RIP: We offer our condolences to

Marko and all the Rukavina family on the death last Fri-

day August 18 of their father Josip. May he rest in peace.

September 3: Fathers Day Appeal: Next Sunday we

have a third collection, the annual diocesan appeal to

support our retired diocesan priests.

Thank you for your support.

Euthanasia petition: The forthcoming proposed legalisation of euthanasia in

New South Wales is disastrous and evil public policy, a

threat to the vulnerable, verifiably another step on the

‘slippery slope’ (a concept so often derided but verifiable

from experience already in other legislative changes, and

specifically abortion law ‘reform’) in the promotion of the

‘culture of death’ being foisted on our society, and a

tempting course of action to decrease the public health bill

in an ageing population.

The relentless promotion of so-called ‘progressive’

legislation must be resisted for the sake of the common

good. This is not a matter of imposing ‘faith standards’

on anyone. Euthanasia is a menace to all members of our

society, including in particular the very ill, who deserve

to be loved and accompanied, and treated with greater

dignity. This proposal is a very serious attack on the

ethics of our medical professions.

Experience particularly from the Netherlands shows

clearly how the killing escalates to include the

non-consenting. The evidence is there.

The legislative acceptance of spurious claim to ‘rights’

creates corresponding ‘duties’ to be imposed on others.

If a person has a right to euthanasia, then members of

the medical profession have a duty to kill.

There is material in the foyer for those interested in

further reading.

National Plebiscite: I encourage all to defend the

natural right of every child to a mother and a father.

Let us pray for all concerned at this difficult and important

time for our nation and its citizens.

Eucharistic Adoration: Thank you to the fifty-five

people who have volunteered for the Monday-

Tuesday roster. At the moment there are still

some hours in each day that need covering. If you

have volunteered and are able to cover one of

those hours, or if you have not yet volunteered

and would like to do so, that would be a big help. Let us

pray that the Lord will help us cover these periods.

It is very good to see so many able to use the chapel.

2017: FATIMA CENTENARY YEAR .

Working Bee Sept 2, 8:30am-2pm: The maintenance team

members are looking for help to make a good start on the

development of a coffee room, utilising the existing building basement, for people using the Adoration

Chapel. A big team is required for this day.

Please come for even an hour or two if you can.

Coming Up: August 29: 7:15pm, parish house: Bishop Robert

Baron DVD, Pivotal Players, on Michelangelo.

September 2: Coffee room working bee.

September 3: Fathers Day. Annual Fathers Day

collection for retired diocesan clergy.

Sept 8: Birthday of Our Lady:

Masses: 9:15am, 7:30pm.

8:15pm: Holy Hour to initiate Eucharistic Adoration.

7:30pm: St Pat’s Cathedral Hall, Dr Edward Sri, Men,

Women & the Mystery of Love,

Sept 11,12: Eucharistic Adoration begins in chapel,

8am - 9pm.

God bless.

********************************* Fatima: August 13.

An unusual, unprecedented type of apparition The fourth apparition apparition of Our Lady in Fatima,

Portugal, on August 13, 1917, is less well known than those

of July 13th and October 13th. Yet it deserves to be, for it is

completely atypical and unique in the history of apparitions.

First, because of the vast number of witnesses. Already, on

July 13th, the number had reached an exceptional figure of

about 5,000 people. On the 13th of August, there were 18 to

20,000 people in attendance—an astounding figure. In com-

parison, the affluence in Lourdes peaked at only about

8,000, on March 4, 1858.

But what sets this apparition apart is that it took place

without the seers. This had never happened in the history of

recorded apparitions. On that day the young seers were

absent, for they were locked up in a jail by the civil authori-

ties! Yet the thousands of people present witnessed all the

external signs seen in the previous apparitions: the flash of

lightning, accompanied by two formidable claps of thunder,

then the apparition of a small cloud on the green oak with a

noticeable change in the natural light around.

These external signs seen by thousands of people without

the presence of the seers is a unique event.

This is what people are saying. Let our lives be good,

and the times will be good. We make our times. Such

as we are, such are the times.”
