CASH VALVE B SERIESPRESSURE REGULATORS
CAVMC-0509-US-1212 Copyright © 2012 Pentair WWW.PENTAIR.COM/VALVES
Series B regulators are designed and built to withstand long periods of service without maintenance.
Features• Sizes: Available in 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1",11/4", 11/2" and 2" sizes with either ironor bronze bodies with female threadedconnections.
• Simplicity of Design: The rugged butsimple design incorporated in allversions of the Type B regulator lendsitself to easy maintenance and repair.Disassembly is simple since there areonly six rustproof bolts to remove whenreplacing diaphragms or pressuresprings. The inner valve assembly iseasy to clean or replace by justloosening the large hex head bottomplug. All major repairs can normally be made without removing the valvefrom the line.
• Optional Cryogenic Service: Approvedconstruction is offered for the Type Bregulator to enable it to be used in
handling cold fluids or gases. For more information write for Data SheetCAVMC-0514.
• Inbuilt Strainer Screen: The workingparts of the valve are protected by aself-supporting inbuilt Monel® strainerscreen which is easily removed forcleaning by removing the bottom plug.
• Time Tested Rugged Construction:The Type B regulator has proven itself in countless applications for well over 40 years. The heavy ruggedconstruction ensures long life andservice; bodies are of iron or bronze. The large area reinforced BUNA-Ndiaphragm is furnished as standard forwater or air. These valves are fitted witha carefully matched brass piston andcylinder with a composition seat discinsert for tight shut-off.
• Easy Pressure Adjustment: Pressureadjustment can be changed easily byloosening the lock nut and simplyturning the adjusting screw – clockwiseto increase, and counterclockwise todecrease the delivery pressure. TheType B regulator is furnished with asquare head adjusting screw and hexlock nut as standard. They may also be fitted with either a T-handle or analuminum handwheel for an additionalcharge.
Note: If downstream pressure control iscritical to the safety of the installation, then the downstream side should beprotected by a safety relief valve set torelieve at the maximum safe limit, butat least 10 psi higher than the deliverysetting of the pressure regulator.
DescriptionThe Cash Valve Series B pressure reducingand regulating valves are single seated, spring loaded, direct acting diaphragm-type valves that automatically reduce ahigh initial inlet pressure to a lowerdelivery pressure and maintain that lowerpressure within reasonably close limits.
Exceptionally dependable, Series Bregulators are an excellent example of sound engineering and design. They aremade of high quality materials to meet therequirements of a variety of applications. Each valve is assembled by skilledworkmen and tested before shipment.
Series B regulators are designed and built to withstand long periods of servicewithout maintenance. However, afunctioning or operating piece ofequipment such as an automatic valvedoes, in time, require attention. Simplicityof design aids in the ease of maintenance
when repairs may be needed. To keepthese regulators in top operating order,Cash Valve make available for the morepopular valve models, a convenient, pre-packaged repair kit specificallydesigned for that particular valve. Each kitincludes genuine Cash Valve replacementparts for those that are subject to wear ordamage through normal regulator usage.
Every regulator is supplied with thedesired delivery pressure pre-set by the factory.
Cash Valve Series B regulators aredesigned to meet the installationrequirements of a variety of systems and are designated as follows:
• Type B – Water and Air Service (Up to 180°F)
• Type B – Steam Service (Up to 400°F)

Optional Differential Pressure Control(Type B Steam regulators only):The Type B Steam regulator can be factory modified to serve as a constantdifferential pressure control valve byincorporating a 1/4" side tap in the springhousing. In a typical steam-oil atomizinginstallation sketch below, fluid loadingpressure is introduced above thediaphragm of the Type B regulator and
steam is delivered through the valve at a regulated pressure higher than theloading pressure, with the difference inpressure being determined by thediaphragm spring setting. The outletsteam pressure is automaticallymaintained to provide a constant, fixedpressure differential between the steampressure and the oil pressure. Variations inthe loading pressure are reflected in a
pound-for-pound change in the dischargepressure.
Valves equipped with the optionaldifferential pressure control are fitted witha pressure-tight closing cap and gasketover the pressure adjusting screw. Inaddition, a gasket is installed above thediaphragm to ensure a good seal betweenthe spring housing and the valve body.

Note: Capacities are based upon a 20% fallout.
The amount of air or fluid any regulatorwill pass is governed by two factors; (1)pressure differential, or the differencebetween the inlet and outlet pressure, and (2) a characteristic known as fall-offor droop, by which the outlet pressuredrops slightly as flow starts through the
valve and drops off even more asincreased demand requires increasedflow. The rates of flow stated on thefollowing charts are based on assumedconditions, which may be consideredaverage for a given installation.

Type BBC is a direct acting, single seated, spring loaded diaphragm-type pressurereducing and regulating valve thatautomatically reduces a high pressure to alower pressure and maintains the lowerpressure within reasonably close limits. Itis available in 3/8" through 11/2" sizes andmay be fitted with either a cast iron orbronze body.
The Type BBC regulator is designed forheavy oil service (Bunker C and othergrades), as well as dirty liquids or fluidswith a high viscosity. These valves are wellsuited for systems having a maximumoperating temperature of 180°F whenfitted with a BUNA-N diaphragm andsystems with a maximum operatingtemperature of 400°F when fitted with a Monel® metal diaphragm. Type BBCregulators are equipped with a stainlesssteel piston and seat as standard.
Depending on the setting of the adjustingspring installed, delivery pressures may beadjusted from a minimum of 2 psi to a maximum of 200 psi. The range ofadjustment for each of the various springsthat may be installed is shown in the Spring Range Table underSpecifications, Page 8.
The table shows the standard factory trim(piston, piston seat, and diaphragm) as
well as the inlet pressure maximums forthe Type BBC Heavy Oil or Viscous Fluidsregulators. Valves will normally befurnished as indicated, however, othercombinations of body material, piston-cylinder and diaphragm are available onspecial order.
The Type BBC Heavy Oil and Viscous Fluid regulator incorporates a radicaldeparture from the conventional regulatorvalve design, featuring a “universal joint”type seating arrangement which insuresfree valve operation. As a result of thisdesign there are no small ports or closetolerances that would prevent dependableperformance. Like other Series Bregulators, the working parts are easilyaccessible without removing the valve fromthe line. The standard regulator is fittedwith a square head adjusting screw andlock nut arrangement. For a smalladditional charge, a T-handle or ahandwheel may also be fitted.
Note: If downstream pressure control is critical to the safety of the installation, then the downstream side should beprotected by a safety relief valve set torelieve at the maximum safe limit, but at least 10 psi higher than the pressureregulator's delivery setting.
