INTRODUCTION
A little about funding your college education:
College can be intimidating for a number of reasons, and some students have a tendency to steer clear of
high ranked institutions due to the hefty price tags. Don’t be that student. You deserve to go to any
school you get in to, so that is why we are here to provide you with any questions you have regarding
student loans as well as information on scholarships that you qualify for.
A Few Tips on Applying for Scholarships:
Looking for money to fund your higher education program can be time consuming, complicated and even
frustrating at times but it is well WORTH THE TROUBLE. Below are some tips on how to make the process easier,
and at the end of this document you will find a worksheet to help you organize your funding options
Search for new scholarships periodically. You should do a new search every 3 months during the year to
make sure you do NOT LET OPPORTUNITIES PASS YOU BY.
Pay close attention to DUE DATES. Mark them on your agenda, put alarms a week before on your phone,
or post-its in your room. There is nothing more frustrating than missing out on FREE MONEY!
Establish a good relationship with your Financial Aid office to make sure your documents are completed
by the due dates (Make a FRIEND)
Establish a good relationship with your professors! They will be the ones to submit letters of
recommendation for your scholarships which are KEY
Do NOT pass up the opportunity to apply for a $1,000 – $2,000 scholarship. It all ADDS UP in the end and
you will be happy you did when you begin to pay back your student loans upon graduation
Don’t get DISCOURAGED! You will NOT get every scholarship you apply for, but do not let that keep you
from re-applying the following year or looking for other funding sources. PERSISTENCE IS KEY!
