Case study Traditional Extension in conservation area, Eastwood Project: Traditional Extension in a conservation area, Eastwood, Nottingham Client: Private Client Completion: June 2010 Brief Our motorbike enthusiast clients wanted a dual purpose extension primarily to be used as a garden room to add space to their home and secondly to house their motorbike collection. They were keen on traditional design and wanted exposed brickwork internally with a flag stone floor, the extension needed to be large enough to manoeuvre the motorbikes and level access was essential. Design Going down the traditional route with exposed brickwork internally we designed a large open roof space with a pair of king post trusses and roof lights to maximise space and light. Matching the existing 40 degree roof pitch gave an impressive 5m to the underside of the ridge and the oak king post trussed added texture, warmth and a great focal point. The clients choice of flagstone flooring was both practical and suited the traditional appearance. Externally the extension was designed to match in with the existing dwelling which was a requirement of the conservation area consent. A wide set of glazed doors and level access were specified so that the bikes could brought in and out with ease. The Build The build took approximately 15 weeks to complete and the contractors are to be commended for their excellent workmanship and attention to detail.
