De Marcos Productions was founded in 1981 and continues to develop models as well as the talents of many young people who posses an innate passion for fashion. At DMFA, students learn many of the creative skills and trades called for by the fashion industry. DMFA is committed to developing the talents of future designers, stylists, illustrators, photographers, and graphic artists. DMFA is also devoted to helping students achieve their goals and in building the confidence they need to succeed in the fashion field through the many classes, workshops, and personal mentoring offered at De Marcos Productions Fashion Academy.

Proceeds support the student scholarship fund for De Marcos Fashion Academy. A reception for VIP ticket holders ($100) will take place at 7pm, at Engel & Völkers (1323 State St). Betty Stephens is a Santa Barbara local known for her philanthropic work and strong support of social justice and the democratic party. She has been an influential player on the local and national political scene for many years.

President Jimmy Carter’s path to the White House included meeting a Southern Belle and Santa Barbara local, Betty Stephens, who continues to be his staunch supporter and friend.

My friendship with Jimmy Carter began in 1976, a year the country was due for a new President. Democrats and Republicans were scurrying for a replacement.

I and my husband were big donors and I did many fundraisers at our home in Santa Barbara for all the Democratic candidates that came to California looking for big money. There was to be a huge and very long event at the Hilton Hotel in LA one night for all of the Presidential candidates to debate. So many of us went down the night before and stayed at the hotel. People came from everywhere. Looking around the room I saw seated a true “Who’s Who” of powerful Democratic supporters.

The champagne was flowing BUT one seat at the table was empty – reserved for the woman who lived in Beverly Hills – one of the most powerful Democratic women in LA. When she arrived late, our hostess was NOT pleased because she arrived with a man. That man turned out to be Jimmy Carter!
