All day, all night, Cary Grant. Thats all I hear from my wife

is, Cary Grant. What can he do, that I cant? Big deal, big starCary Grant- Alan Sherman.

Like comedian Mr. Sherman, I am sure many other men tiredof their wives swooning over the charming good looks of CaryGrant. He had a casual coolness, a debonair presence, andincredible magnetism. These are a few of his more popularfilms that demonstrate the power of his onscreen charm.

1. Topperwas one of Cary Grants early films. George Kerby(Grant) and his wife Marion (Constance Bennett) are a young

and wealthy couple who meet tragic ends when their car wrapsitself around a tree. As ghosts, they decide the only way tomove onto the next world is to do a final good deed. They settheir sights on stuffy bank president Cosmo Topper (Roland Young). Topper seems to have aninner longing to be wild and carefree but his concern for his reputation and his wife Clara (BillieBurke) have a strong ruling over his life. Will George and Marion be able to help Topper loosenup or are they doomed to stay in limbo forever?

2.Bringing Up Babyisnt about a baby at all- or at least not the kind of baby youd expect.Paleontologist David Huxley (Grant) is trying to get a large donation to fund a project at themuseum from the very rich Mrs. Elizabeth Carleton Random. While trying to secure the grant, he

keeps getting mixed up with Susan (Katherine Hepburn), a wealthy, screwball heiress whohappens to be the niece to Mrs. Random. Each encounter with Susan seems to escalate into atumultuous ordeal. Fed up, David tries to wash his hands of her but it is too late: she has fallen inlove with him. She convinces David to help her with Baby, the tame leopard her brother just sentfrom Brazil. In return, shell help him secure the money from her aunt. This only ensures morecrazy escapades as Susan will do any hair-brained act to keep David near. Things get out of handwhen Baby runs away, and the race is on to capture Baby before animal control, the circus or abig game hunter does.

3.Philadelphia Storyteams Grant and Hepburnup again but this time as ex-husband and wife.

Two years after a contentious divorce,Philadelphia socialite Tracy Lord (Hepburn) isgoing to marry George Kittredge. Things dontgo smoothly for the bride-to-be, especially whenex-husband C.K. Dexter Haven (Grant) shows upwith tabloid reporters intending to cover thewedding. Tracy agrees, so that they wont print a

infidelity with a dancer. While trying to put on a good show for the reporters, Tracys characteris called into question as those around her describe her as a goddess, who finds humanimperfection unforgivable. With a bruised ego and hurt feelings, she has to do some deep soulsearching before she can recite her wedding vows. But who will she be reciting those vows to? Itcould be to George, Dexter or even Macaulay (Jimmy Stewart) the tabloid reporter.

4. Arsenic and the Old Laceis a greatscrewball comedy. Mortimer Brewster(Grant) is about to go on his honeymoon butkeeps getting pulled back into his loonyfamilys ordeals. Mortimer has two sweet

elderly aunts who are euthanizing lonely oldmen as acts of charity. His Uncle Teddy isunder the impression that he is TheodoreRoosevelt, and believes that the euthanizedmen are soldiers and victims of yellow fever

and need to be taken to the Panama Canal(otherwise known as the basement) to beburied. If that is not enough, his estrangedand murderous brother Jonathan shows upwith a new face, a plastic surgeon (Peter

Lorre) and a dead body of his own. How will Mortimer get out of this mess and back to his newwife?

5.Charadeis arguably one of Grants best

films. Reggie (Audrey Hepburn) decidesto get a divorce from her husband, CharlesLampert. Shortly after this decision, shemeets Peter Joshua (Grant) and becomessmitten with him. She soon learns thatCharles met a gruesome end on a train andthat the government has been looking forhim. An administrator at the U.S.Embassy, Mr. Bartholemew (WalterMatthau), says that Charles was a spy withvarious aliases- with the aid of three othermen, he stole $250,000 from the U.S and itmust be returned. These thieves are extremely dangerous and will stop at nothing to get themoney- the only problem is that Reggie doesnt have it and didnt even know that Charles had it.When she turns to Peter for comfort and protection, she discovers that Peter isnt being honestabout his identity either. Who can she trust? What did Charles do with all that money? How canshe escape the three treacherous men? Charade is great because it has that wonderful Hitchcocksuspense with a constant twisting in the story line that keeps you on your toes.
