I was encouraged by the experience and talent SIL has available for ourstaff. It inspired me to act as a voice and advocate for you counselors.I think this conference is invaluable just for the chance to connect with theother counselors and share stories of what is or isn't working andbrainstorm together ways to do our roles... It is very encouraging toworship for and pray with each other because there is a level ofunderstanding that no one else in our areas or support team can.The sharing of resources, both in terms of materials/ presentations/ booksas well as the sharing of ideas and solutions regarding issues common tomany of our settings was EXTREMELY valuable. While we can consultwith each other electronically, it is so much easier to do this in a face-to-face setting and get input/feedback from many different people all at thesame time. Furthermore, being able to consult with fellow professionals ina context where confidentiality is understood and respected is HIGHLYvaluable.

An additional conference outcome is that another SIL Counselor (Patty

McGeever) and myself were "commissioned" by the SIL Counselors to co-lead

the SIL International Counseling Dept. after June 1 when our current

Coordinator plans to step down. This is an exciting new role which Patty and I

are greatly looking forward to while praying for the Lord's hand of guidance,

wisdom, and love in as we serve in a leadership role.

Trauma Healing Institute - thi.americanbible.org

In October, I was able to complete my training in a trauma healingcurriculum that SIL uses as a Scripture Engagement application. I'm nowa "Master Facilitator" and the goal is to help provide trauma healingworkshops in the Americas and other parts of the world in the heartlanguage of the people struggling with crisis and emotional pain. Lordwilling, I hope to co-lead workshops in Thailand, Mexico and Peru in 2015.

Mental Health in Missions Conference (MHM)



I leave on Nov. 19 for this conference which is attended by Christian counselors

and member care specialists from many different Christian ministries. It's the

only conference of it's kind presented and I'll attending seminars and

representing Wycliffe/SIL at networking opportunities during the conference.

Mexico Trip

We're also planning another trip to our Mexico branch centers. Another

counselor and myself will go to Oaxaca again for 3 weeks in April/May to

provide counseling services, a trauma healing workshop, and a

relationship seminar to support the individuals and families involved in the

translation projects happening in Mexico.

with a gynecologic

oncologist, she will

hysterectomy in

so appreciated - for

the surgery and her

recovery (at 89).
