  • 1. Helps in identifying the strengths &weaknesses of an individual. Helps to utilize strengths & overcomeweaknesses in order to take advantage ofcareer opportunities. The process of career strategy isconceptually similar to that of anorganizational strategy.

2. Helps in determining the direction of theprofessional career, by answering the someof the questions, that arise within themanagers.Such as, Am I an introvert or an extrovert ? What are my attitudes toward time,achievement, work, material things &change? 3. In real life, people often resist careerplanning because it involves makingdecisions. Likewise managers also resist goal settingbecause of the uncertainities in theenvironment. They also possess the fear of failing toachieve goals. 4. Identification of career goals: -Goal setting is a continuous processthat is flexible, & can be revised accordingto the changing circumstances. Integration of long-term aims with the moreimmediate requirement of action. 5. Planning in advance.- The time frame for career planningwill differ with the circumstances. 6. Factors required to be taken into account,- economic- social- political- technological- demographic 7. Working in an expanding company providesmore career opportunities than working in acompany that is not expected to grow. Successful career planning requires asystematic scanning of the environment foropportunities & threats, this can be donewith the help of forecasting. 8. The environmental opportunities & threatsmust be matched with the strengths &weaknesses of individuals for the successfulcareer planning. 9. Technical Skills- Supervisory level Conceptual / design Skills- Top managers Human Skills- All levels 10. Helps in building up of ones strengths inorder to take advantage of opportunities. That is, it helps to overcome the weakness &develop the skills to take advantage ofopportunities. It also helps in recognising the threats in theenvironment & develop a strategy to copewith them. 11. It is a logical & systematic analysis of thecareer planning process that involvespersonal preferences, ambitions & values. Alternative choices must be chosen rationallybecause some alternatives may involve highrisks, others low risks. 12. Some choices demand action now and otherscan wait. This choosing up of alternatives gainsimportance because, the careers that werepopular in the past may have an uncertainfuture. 13. The long-term strategic career plan needs tobe supported by short-term objectives &action plans. Eg: The aim of achieving an M.B.A degreerequires the completion of the short-termobjective such as number of courses. 14. Contigency plans are required for thedevelopment of career plans in anenvironment of uncertainity. These plans should be prepared based on thealternative assumptions. 15. It deals with the persons growth &development in career planning. Career goals & personal ambitions can beconsidered in selecting & promoting & indesigning, training & development programs. 16. It helps in evaluating the progress towardcareer goals & making necessary correctionsin the aims or plans.
