• Only about 2% of individuals truly know at age 18 what they want to do for the rest of their lives

• National statistic vary but up to 50% of entering college students are undecided about their major

• The average student changes their major 3 or more times before they graduate

• Most employers are open to hiring from all majors and are more interested in the particular and unique experiences that students have to offer

• Most people can expect to have 4.5 careers over their lifetime and work for an average of 10 different employers

an ongoing process that can help you manage your learning and development. Additionally,

career planning is individual activity that occurs throughout a person's working lifetime. It includes self-discovery, self-assessment,

research, and action.

Career Planning Step #1

1. Conduct Self-Assessment

• Utilize Assessment tools like FOCUS 2, Keirsey Temperament, Career Coach, and others

• These tools help you identify your interests, values, skills, and experience

• Schedule an appointment with a career coach to discuss your results

• Do your own brainstorming and self-discovery – what do you like to do?

• Meet with other trusted individuals in your network ask for input

2. Explore Careers – conduct career research

• Utilize Career Coach, FOCUS 2, and other online resources to find out about occupations including wages, growth trends, employers hiring, and necessary academic credentials (4 steps)

volunteer, others)4. Take suitable college courses and get degree

• Conduct additional research and make an informed decision

5. Market yourself for opportunity

• Conduct an effective job search campaign

• Develop a winning resume, strong LinkedIn presence, learn good interviewing skills, build network
