13th Annual Sale13th Annual SaleI want to welcome you to the 13th Annual Carcass Performance Partners sale in Lucedale MS. This is by far the best
bred, stoutest set of bulls we have sold in 13 years. We have several new partners this year and we all offer our very best. Many large herds keep all their bulls to have enough bulls to have a sale on their farms but their tail end bulls are not as out-standing. We offer only our best – the lower quality calves meet an appointment with a pocket knife – so we can offer you abull that is a top end bull with all the perfomance, calving ease, disposition, carcass traits and maternal traits you are lookingfor that will make your calves more profitable. At todays feeder prices its foolish to grow out a bull that is of lesser quality. Hewill bring $1500 to $1800 as a steer. Our group of smaller breeders do just that – cut the bottom end – grow out the best tobring to Lucedale!
The bulls are fed a high roughage diet so they won’t fall off after you get them home. A yearling bull is like an athelete, hemust be in shape to work, not all fat and lazy. Our misssion has been to offer bulls that can get the job done physically andgenetically with performance that brings top dollar for you with their calves. Recently I came to Lucedale to just sit andobserve the quality of calves from this area’s market and I came away very impressed. They are getting better and better! You don’t see as many poor quality calves on the market as you used to. Thanks to our repeat buyers for your commitment to improving your cattle.
I invite you to come to our sale, meet the consignors, ask questions and visit with us even if you don’t need a bull rightnow. If your genetic supplier doesn’t offer what we do consider a change in where you buy your bulls. In 12 years we haveonly had to replace 3 bulls so you can buy with confidence we will treat you right. Of course if you need bulls come buysome, it will be a profitiable decision!! Check out the females too, there are some super ones this year!
Moley and his staff have been the best to work with and we appreciate all they do every week, not just sale day. We appreci-ate the board of directors of Lucedale Livestock, girls in office and all the crew for their help and support.
If you have questions call! Id love to try to help.
Thank you for attending the sale.
Mark Smith

My favorite of Cody’s set of bulls-aren’t they stout?? He really is getting it done breeding thesebig footed, thick, moderate bulls like he’s doing. That’s what makes buying from CarcassPartners so profitable-all breeders are committed to producing the best and cut the ones theywouldn’t use themselves. You as buyer get to take advantage of that. I’d put this bull up againstany I’ve seen this year and I go to a lot of bull sales. If he was at a big breeder he’d bring twicewhat he will bring sale day. Don’t miss him!! Minimum bid $2500.

Picture perfect, red polled, bred heifer ready to add to some progressive breeder’s herd and makea front pasture cow. Consider the power mamas in her pedigree- her dam, Black Queen, sold inthe recent Dixie National Sale for $4000 after winning many championships for her original owner.Grand dam, Black Princess, is a donor at Triple S Farms that has produced over $25,000 in prog-eny to date and is still producing. Great grand dam – Pocohontas just left herd at Triple S after 15years of profit and pleasure for Mark Smith. She sold over $40,000 worth of progeny including abull in an early CPP sale that was ahead of his time –a HT before anyone ever thought of HT- andtopped the sale. Bred to 3MS/SVF Heza Star 103A, ASA #2755033, for fall calf.

Double CC Farms, 284 Cuevas Gravel Pit Rd., Poplarville, MS 39470We are a small family farm in registered cattle business. This is our 2nd year to consign to A Carcass PerformancePartners sale. We breed our cattle AI with the “top notch” bulls to produce high performing cattle. Our bulls followa rigid vaccination and worming protocol to protect against diseases and are registered with ASA.
At Double CC Farms, honesty and integrity come first and we guarantee your purchases of top bulls will be high per-formance, easy doing bulls for your herds. Thank you for allowing us to pass on the product of prayer and hardwork. Our growing family has received countless blessings and made many irreplaceable friends in the cattle business. Our hopes and prayers are the same happens to you with your purchases from Double CC Farms.
The Rockhill Ranch is located in Purvis, Ms. and is owned by Rickey and Gay Nicholas. We have been in the registered cattle businesssince 1997 and have consigned to the Carcass Performance Partners sale for the past 11 years. We originally started our registered herdwith Black Angus and have since added Simmental, SimAngusTM and Simbrah breeds. We are actively cross breeding to obtain the optimalbeef bulls and heifers that will work well in the hot and humid southern climate and still have excellent carcass traits. Please check out our new web site rockhill-ranch.com for more information on our cattle operation and on semen that is available. Thanks to all who havesupported the Carcass Performance Partner’s sales through the years. Hope to see you at the sale this year.
At Rocky Hollow Farm, we have focused our program on raising quality purebred Simmentals. We purchased our first Simmental 21years ago and have been extremely satisfied with the performance and disposition of the breed.
We raise and market purebred and percentage replacement heifers and purebred Simmental and SimAngus bulls. In the last couple ofyears we have been producing SimAngus HT (Heat Tolerant) heifers and bulls. These seem to work great in the south. The combinationof British, continental and a touch of Brahman makes the three way cross a real winner. Our herd program targets commercial cattle-men by providing bulls and heifers that have calving ease, fleshing ability, good dispositions and affordable to purchase. We use artificialinsemination on 90% of the cows. This method of breeding allows us to use bulls that are proven sires and trait leaders. We have con-
centrated on traits that we know commercial cattlemen consider important to their bottom line. Calving ease, to make sure you get a live calf without problems. Weaningweights, to give you those extra pounds on the scale at sale time. Disposition, because no one wants to deal with crazy cows and bulls.
Our herd has been certified brucellosis free and our health program includes weighing, vaccinating and worming each calf on a set schedule.
There are several reasons we have joined Carcass Performance Partners to market bulls. We are a family farm and we wanted to consolidate marketing efforts with others tobuild a solid strategy for selling our best animals. We believe that you should stand behind the product you sell. It should meet or exceed the standards that the seller has rep-resented. We believe that the past buyers of our bulls that have been marketed with Carcass Performance Partners have been satisfied, and that is why we have numerousrepeat customers.
We also believe in the minimum bid. We do not want any buyers to think that they have been “run” during a sale. We have found that honest and ethical selling practices willmake a difference, not only for the buyers but also for our peace of mind.

Triple S Farms 304 Moeller Rd. Picayune MS 39466Triple S Farms started in the 50’s at it’s current location as a dairy farm with Dad milking Jerseys as a way of life and raising 5children and keeping Mama happy. Hard work, perseverance, dedication and a lot of prayer and sweat allows Triple S to existtoday with 4th and 5th generations of Smiths. Smiths, Simmentals, and Simbrah is the namesake with emphasis on qualitygenetics. 40 years of genetic management experience drives our selection pressure on calving ease, maternal traits, marbling, growth muscle, easy fleshing and convenience traits. Also crossbreeding and heat tolerance play a role in making our cattleacceptable to us in our climate and our customers. We subscribe to the adage, “if they don’t pay they don’t stay!” Because theymust pay their way.
Triple S has been blessed with abundant blessings in 2014! Our son Alan and Sara Catherine are getting settled into marriedlife in Starkville MS. L4 Cattle Co. Adrain Lumpkin and family, 93 Joe Lumkin Rd, Carriere MS 39426L4 Cattle Farm has been in the commercial cattle business for many years. When my dad was born in 1930, they gave him a calf. There hasalways been a cow on the farm since that day. Recently we have intergraded registered Angus and SimGenetics into our herd. We understandthe importance of having a quality bull that will sire progeny that will perform at a high level and improve genetics. We are striving to producebulls that are sound, heavy muscled, easy fleshing and have exceptional EPDs.
L4 Cattle farm is currently operated by myself, Adrain Lumpkin, Jr., as well as my wife Shannon and our four girls, Sara Catherine, 24,Caroline, 19, Claire, 16 and Laura Cate, 10. Each person plays a special role in helping make this operation a success. We are thankful thatGod has allowed us to grow as a farm and as a family, making memories at the L4 Cattle Farm.
David and Dorthy Pipkins, 134 Jessie Smith Rd., Lucedale, MS 39452David is a strong supporter of Carcass Performance Partners after buying his first bull from us several years ago, right here in Lucedale at an early CPP sale. He is anexample of our commitment to quality, honesty and integrity, and made CPP a friend and customer for life. He is offering 2 of his best females again this year last year oneof his was the top selling heifer. His bull he purchased for a mere $1600[even though he was worth twice that] is still influencing his herd today. He is one of the reasonswe try to sell you the best every year so you the customer is satisfied. Many times YOU the customer can buy bulls at CPP under the money because we offer a no frills sale.P O bid is printed, you bid on the ones you like and we want you to be satisfied with him and his calves. Our bulls at CPP are just as good or better than some of theselarge ranches because we use our pocket knife on the ave. ones and bring only the best to sell. You can run wheels off a pickup truck hunting good bulls, but you can buyfrom CPP right here in Lucedale and save your gas money to take your wife on a trip.
Sleepy Creek Farms was established in 1997 and was principally a muscadine producer for small regional wineries. We maintained our vineyard and migrated from com-mercial cattle into SimAngusTM cattle as our extended family shifted out of dairy and chicken farming. By 2013 we registered the 3rd most new ASA animals in Mississippi.
Although new to Simmental scene in Mississippi we are building a strong package of basic Simmental, Angus, and outcross genetics. We are looking for well-rounded ani-mals that exhibit phenotypes that match their genetics. Our goal is to create a sound basic herd that will produce seedstock regional cattlemen will appreciate. In pursuingthat goal we are using the top American Simmental Association and American Angus Association AI sires.
Sullivian farms, Delbert and Linda Sullivan, Milry AlDelbert and Linda have been punching cows for over 40 years. Mostly commerical cattle until 6-7 years ago started adding registered Simmental and SimAngus cattle. Thecommercial herd is made up of crossbred brahma and sm x limosin cows . Their love for quality is evident in the bulls he is bringing to Lucedale. Delbert has been astrong supporter of CPP consigning a top Fat Butt son a few years ago-and has been a purchaser of top females many times. Delbert and Linda breed for calving ease andgrowth with emphasis on Homo Black and Homo polled . If you in Milry stop by and see them.
Sasser Cattle Company was begun in the early 1970’s with a purchase of 15 cattle from a neighbor. I married my wife, Kathy in 1974 and she has been my partner in thecattle business ever since. We had four children; Lane, Dustin, Traci, and Blake who helped on the farm until they left home. The herd remained about the same size forabout 20 years. As I was able to increase my acreage, I gradually increased my herd. I had about 50 head until the end of 2001.
In 2001, I inherited land from my father and purchased my uncle’s place from my cousins. After acquiring this additional land I really began to grow my herd. I now have240 breeding age females and both a spring and a fall calving season.
In 2007, my neighbor Jerry Wayne Fry, Sr. began to help on the farm. He has 30 years of experience in working with cattle in many different aspects. He really knows what tolook for in breed bulls and cattle in general and is a big asset to Sasser Cattle Company. Two years ago my nephew, Russ fresh from graduation at Mississippi State Universitycame on board to help on the farm. All together; I, Kathy, Jerry Wayne and Russ have a combined 125 years of experience. Our different assts complement each other.
Progress has been steady here at Sasser Cattle Company. As the herd grew I also began to put emphasis on genetics. I soon realized that the quality of the bull was veryimportant and to look for improvement and upgrade in genetics when purchasing a new bull. I know now that a bull with the right genetics doesn’t cost it pays!

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDsare the most accurate and effective toolavailable for comparing genetic levels. Inusing EPDs, the difference between twosires’ EPDs represents the unit differenceexpected in the performance of their proge-ny. For example, if sires A and B haveEPDs of +10 and –5, a 15-unit differencewould be expected in their progeny (movingfrom -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to usingEPDs is knowing what units they areexpressed in. For example, if the above casereferred to weaning weight EPDs, A wouldbe expected to sire 15-pounds more weaningweight than B. If calving ease were thetrait, A would be expected to sire 15-percentmore unassisted births in first-calf heifers;in other words, if B sired 30 assists in agroup of 100 heifers, we’d expect A torequire 15 assists. A percentile-rankingchart is required to determine where a bull’sEPDs rank him relative to other bulls in thebreed. For percentile rankings or moredetailed information about EPDs and $indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listedbelow are the units ASA EPDs are expressedin:
All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposedunder an all-purpose-sire scenario. (Seebelow for more details.)
Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat.Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births
when used on heifers.Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight.Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unas-
sisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of
weaning weight due to milk and growth.Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye.Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds
of force required to shear a steak.Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remain-
ing in the cowherd at 6 years of age.
Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposedunder a terminal-sire scenario. (See belowfor more details.)
Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.
$ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparisonof genetic levels for many economically impor-tant traits, they only provide a piece of theeconomic puzzle. That’s where $ indexescome in. Through well-conceived, rigorousmathematical computation, $ indexes blendEPDs and economics to estimate an animal’soverall impact on your bottom line. The sametechnology that led to the dramatic progressin swine, poultry and dairy genetics over thelast several decades was used to develop thefollowing $ indexes:
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for useon the entire cow herd (bred to both Angusfirst-calf heifers and mature cows) with theportion of their daughters required to main-tain herd size retained and the remainingheifers and steers put on feed and sold gradeand yield.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use onmature Angus cows with all offspring put onfeed and sold grade and yield.
Using API and TI: First, determine which index touse; if you’re keeping replacements use API, ifnot, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in onthe unit difference between bulls. (Asdescribed above, index units are in dollars percow exposed.) The difference can be used todetermine how much a bull is worth comparedto another. Or, put another way, how muchyou can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-typesire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a+50bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). Apercentile-ranking chart is required to deter-mine where a bull’s index value ranks him rel-ative to other bulls in the breed. For per-centile rankings or more detailed informationabout EPDs and $ indexes
