Greetings From Your Chapter Directors
Carl & Nancy Allen
GWRRA NC-A “Piedmont Goldwings”
WOTS has come and gone. We had a wonderful time as usual. We were the ticket sellers again; selling 50/25/15/10 as well as grand prize tickets. We had 17 people present for the closing ceremonies. CSC gave a trailer this year that was worth over $3500.00 and Bill Buckner won it. This made our time there even more enjoyable. Chapter A was recognized as Chapter of the Year. Thanks for all the time and effort our members contributed to make us Chapter of the Year.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone out and about.

We’ve just enjoyed Wings Over the Smokies, and came home happy – especially Bill Buckner, who won the trailer! WOTS was better attended this year, and many of us agreed that we enjoyed it more this year. We were seeing friends we hadn’t seen for quite some time, participating in rides and sem-inars, viewing the Honoring Our Heroes video and seeing the Legends performances! Side note: I taught the 3-wheel BRC at Davidson Community College in September, and am sched-uled again in October. What a hoot! Two full days of class and riding! The school has 4 Can Am’s, which are semi to fully automatic. Neat experience and, for those who do not have a motorcycle en-dorsement, successful completion of the course results in a DMV card waiving the riding test at DMV. The license endorsement is issued as 3-wheel only, because the handling is quite different from operating a 2-wheel motorcycle. 2019 NHTSA Motorcycle Safety 5-Year Plan
GWRRA Wing World Magazine is printing this report (in serial format) to Gold Wing subscribers, be-ginning with the September 2019 issue. I noted the FHWA Roadway Information Database (RID) Locations collected 4,558 miles in North Carolina, 2nd highest mileage of the 6 states surveyed. Data collection in conjunction with MotorcycleRoads.com, Wing World Oct. 2019, p. 30. I believe this will help to emphasize motorcycle riding safety considerations, but really wish it could be widely shared with all the driving public. Seeking it through the Federal Register and on NHTSA's website, while available, is not something many people are likely to do. Please share this information with your friends. We are blessed with some wonderful roads for motorcycle riding here, beautiful and varied scenery, from mountains to ocean, historical sites, interesting attractions, wineries, museums, and many wonderful restaurants. People come from all over the world to enjoy some of our better-known roads, most notably the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway. Now that we are in Fall (although right now it seems Summer is not willing to relinquish its hold), temperatures will be moderating, and many areas will be holding Fall festival activities. It’s a good time for us to go out riding. Please remember the Impromptu Ride Pool, and feel free to suggest rides for us to take, whether week day or weekend. We have a lot of retirees who would love to ride during the week, as well as those of us who are limited to weekend riding, who are looking for opportunities, directions, or destinations to ride our motorcycles. If you have ideas or suggestions, please call or email me, Carl, Ron and Alice, and we’ll help get the word out. Please be aware, leaves are beginning to change (time for leaf-peeping), lovely when they color up, not so lovely when they drop and we have to rake them up. Remember, when leaves are falling and covering the road, when they get wet (and it will rain again someday) they can be very slick and hide some road hazards, as well. Keep up with your maintenance, perform your pre-ride inspection (T-CLOCS), and wear your protec-tive gear (ATGATT). As the weather gets cooler, remember to dress for the weather in warmer layers.
See you all at our Chapter gathering! Ride Safe, Ride Often.. Paula, NC-A Ride Coordinator 336-601-9216
