The com- mittee has worked very hard to put together a series of Informational Forums and the first was held on January 23, the second on February 7 and the most recent, April 5 and April 13. Attending our third forum on April 5 was the Allegheny Foundation (Scaife Foundation) and Commercial Bank. On April 13, we hosted Westmoreland Community Action (American Architectural Salvage) and representatives from the Westmoreland County Planning Department/CDBG, who distribute federal HUD funds in the county through Community Development Block Grants. We are hopeful that our efforts will be rewarded with future grants from these organizations but we will not know for some time. Our goal is to have Foundation grants and community contributions bridge the gap between our $500K congre- gational goal and the $800K challenge grant level which triggers the $200K grant from the RKM Foundation. We have already begun preparations for our summer fund -raising events with the planning committees having met for the Dinner in White to be held Saturday, July 15 and the Golf Outing, Monday, August 14, to be held at Ligonier Country Club, plus the 5K Family Fun Run/Walk - Satur- day, November 18 – to be held in scenic Rector. BEN MCKEE’S 90TH

BIRTHDAY Ben & Mona plan to be in church with us on May 7

th, but

rather than having cake follow-ing the service, they would ap-preciate your good wishes that morning, and they especially love cards. Please mail cards to Ben at 33 Wesley Dr., Johnstown PA 15904. Thanks!

Many mothers living in poverty cannot afford to purchase an adequate supply of diapers for their in-fants or toddlers. First, an inadequate supply raises health concerns for the little ones. In addition it makes it very difficult for a parent to work since most daycares require the parents to provide a suffi-cient supply of disposable diapers. This is further complicated by the fact that diapers cannot be pur-chased with food stamps or WIC. Mothers, who cannot afford an adequate supply of disposable dia-pers, turn to the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau for assistance.

Heritage Church will be collecting packages of dis-posable diapers (any size, any brand) through Moth-ers’ Day (May 14) to help build an emergency bank of diapers at the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau. A receptacle is located at the top of the stairwell to receive your donations. Thank you in

advance for your generosity.

For those of you who place flowers on the altar for Easter and have no-where to plant the bulbs after they bloom, I would be glad to plant them on the church grounds. Each year that flowers are left at the church, you will see them bloom the follow-ing year around the bulletin board,

by the glass doors and on the corner of the Dia-mond in front of the bulletin board.

Others plant and care for the flowers around the two trees near the main entrance. The trus-tees have always given approval and have thanked me many times for my donations of the mulch, plants and their care.

Submitted by Ina Mae Smithley * We believe we were shorted at least 18 tulips this year. If you ordered but didn’t get your tulip, please let the office know. We are working with Giant Eagle to fix the issue.

If there are graduates from Heritage Church (high school or college), please let the office know by Monday, May 15th. We need to know what school you are graduating from, your degree, and any future plans. Email us at [email protected] or call 724-238-2627. Graduates will be recognized on Sun-day, May 28th. Please let us know which service you plan to attend. Thanks!

Active Shooting Seminar

On Saturday, June 10th from 8 am to 12 pm, Her-itage UMC will present to the Ligonier Commu-nity a seminar on “How to Prepare for an Active Shooter Situation.” The Early Bird ticket price is $30 (by May 12th), or $40 after until tickets are sold out. Tickets may be purchased online at https://survival-humc.eventbrite. com or in the church office.

This hands-on seminar will better equip you should you be in a building during an active shooter incident. Whether you are a “sheepdog,” who is prepared to defend yourself and others, or you are someone who wants to have a better un-derstanding of how to get yourself and others to safety if you hear shots fired, this program could be a game changer. During this fast-paced and highly informative program you will:

Review strategies recommended by Home-land Security

Move from condition white (oblivious) to condition yellow (aware)

Discuss the numerous response considera-tions and how to choose the most appropri-ate option for your scenario

Run multiple drills in a controlled environ-ment that will build muscle memory

Develop a survival mindset

Tickets are limited and we expect a large turnout so mark your calendars now and get your tickets asap. The training is brought to you by the Capozzi Group.

Be sure to check out Heritage UMC’s giving for 2016 on the attached page. Thank you to everyone who gave so generously and encour-aged the church’s many missions.
