New Facility Adds Over 35% More Capacity

Holland (headquartered in Holland, MI) has constructed a new

trucking terminal at 10151 Division Avenue SW, Wayland, MI.

The new facility includes a 48,790 s.f. terminal with 110 truck

docks and 6,300 s.f. of new office space. The 22-acre site also

includes a new 16,000 s.f. maintenance building with a fueling

station. Holland left behind their 72 dock facility in Wyoming,

MI in August of 2015 moving into the new complex providing

nearly triple the yard space. After a thorough “build vs.

buy” assessment, it became clear it was time to leave the old

terminal and design/build a facility meeting their present and

future needs.

Finding the Right Location for the Long Term

First Companies assisted Holland in finding the new location

on 22 acres of land. Holland was introduced to the company

through a mutual business partner in Chicago. First Companies

came highly recommended as a developer, and to manage

the design and construction of the project. The new terminal

delivers much needed space, and incorporates many new

building techniques and technologies improving the overall

work environment and staff performance, serving them well for

years to come.

“The project has gone very smoothly and our experience working with First Companies has been very positive. I’ve spent almost 15 years in this industry and have overseen many construction projects of this type. My working knowledge of building terminals, combined with the experience First Companies brings, has made this project almost ‘cookie cutter,’ with no major issues or challenges.” Adam Rowe, Holland Properties Manager

The overall project cost was $11 million for the terminal

complex which will become the new standard for future

construction projects of this type. Holland, a subsidiary of

YRC Worldwide, operates 53 terminals primarily throughout

the Midwestern U.S. The new location will be staffed with

approximately 180 employees with anticipated growth at a 5%

annual basis.
