Case Histories

Case History

Challenge: This poultry processor was experiencing premature conveyor belt bearing failure due to harsh wash down processes

Design Compound compatibility Considerations: was key; solution must stand

up to excessive torque, temperature & steam; solution needed to be durable and cost competitive.

Actions Taken: Delta, working with customer’s engineering team, developed and incorporated a proprietary food grade rubber compound bonded to a stainless steel case.

Results: The new bearing incorporating a proprietary compound specifically designed for this application has tripled bearing life, dramatically reduced line shut downs and saves the customer an estimated $15,000 per year.

Delta’s compounds & designs withstand a broad spectrum of conditions, chemicals and temperatures.

• Ball Bearing Seals

• Tapered Roller Bearing Seals

• Spherical Bearing Seals

Challenge: Supplier of hub bearings for a GM truck platform needed a way to increase gas mileage without sacrificing performance.

Design Issues included environmental Considerations: conditions; compatibility with

the customer’s manufacturing processes

Actions Taken: Delta designed and delivered a custom compound that resulted in a significant reduction in torque.

Results: This proprietary compound enabled the customer to provide GM with a unique solution that increased fuel efficiency without compromising performance…thus giving GM a competitive edge.

Case HistoryCase History

Challenge: Customer was experiencing unacceptable disc harrow bearing failure in agricultural combines due to contamination ingress.

Design Solution needed to stand up Considerations: to harsh rugged environment;

exact dimensioning; and tough compounds.

Actions Taken: Delta not only developed a higher durometer, more robust triple lip seal, but also incorporated a shield that would serve as a trash guard keeping heavy debris out of the bearing.

Results: By providing the product as a unitized assembly, Delta was able to reduce processing steps and improve throughput at the customer’s plant, saving the customer an estimated $8,000 per year.

Delta’s multiple lip seals are bonded to a rigid steel insert as a single unit and are cost effectively manufactured to precise tolerances.

Case HistoryCase History

Challenge: Help the customer develop a way to protect the bearings used in expensive oil & gas well drilling bits avoiding shut downs and costly repairs.

Design Solution would have to enableConsiderations: the bits to survive high

temperatures, pressures and harsh fluids while drilling wells thousands of feet deep.

Actions Taken: Delta developed a unique compound that was capable of withstanding these harsh conditions, improving drill bit life and avoiding costly shut downs.

Results: Delta’s solution not only enabled the bearings to stand up to the harsh environment factors connected with drilling, but they improved drill bit life by more than 35% and avoided millions of dollars of costs associated with premature failure.

Delta’s compounds & designs withstand a broad spectrum of conditions, chemicals and temperatures.
