We focus on the market forces driving two-thirds of tropical deforestation for land to produce globally-traded commodities such as beef soy palm oil and timber Our mission is to accelerate progress towards a deforestation-free global economy - through improved transparency innovative finance and strategic communications We help enable the companies investors and governments already taking positive action and shine a light on those that need to do more
Global Canopy Strategy ndash 2015-2020
Our mission for the strategic period 2015-2020 remains unchanged to help achieve the transition to a deforestation-free global economy
But emerging from our mid-term strategic review undertaken late 2017 and in response to the potential of our rapidly-growing supply chains work we have updated our strategic approach
bull Transparency and accountability information moves to the heart of our updated strategy underpinning and enabling all the rest of our work This builds upon the market-leading information and decision-support platforms for a deforestation-free economy that wersquove developed with our partners This creates a strong differentiated asset for us to build upon and increases our ability to provide unique value and support to our key audiences
bull Refining and narrowing our target audiences Our transparency and accountability information continues to be relevant to a broad range of companies financial institutions and governments active in forest risk commodity supply chains But we have refined and narrowed the key audiences whose behaviour we actively aim to change
- We are focusing our strategy on enabling companies in the middle of the supply chain to go deforestation free specifically Consumer Goods Manufacturers and retailers who face strong consumer pressure to change but lack vital information to do so and commodity traders a small number of whom concentrate great power in forest risk supply chains
- We will continue to support financial institutions consumer governments and civil society organisations to both to meet their own deforestation-free goals and to more effectively engage companies linked to deforestation
