• MISSION

• Providing leadership and resources to promote the health of Michigan residents by reducing the impact of cancer.

• The Cancer Team provides proactive leadership of a collaborative, focused national model for comprehensive cancer control on behalf of all Michigan residents.

Cancer Prevention and Control Section

• The MDHHS Comprehensive Cancer Control program provides community grants to increase local cancer prevention and control activities. By working together and using proven strategies Michigan communities can make strides in keeping people from getting or dying from cancer.

• Funding for the cancer prevention and control section is supported by federal and state government.

Direct Service Programs

• Michigan Colorectal Cancer Early Detection Program (MCRCEDP)• The MCRCEDP provides outreach and colorectal cancer education,

individualized risk assessment and screening to eligible, low income, 50-64 year old men and women living in 29 Michigan counties.

Direct Service Programs

• Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program• The BCCCNP provides low-income women access to life-saving

cancer screening services and follow-up care. Women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer may be eligible to receive insurance to cover the cost of their cancer treatment.

Health Systems Change for Tobacco Dependence Treatment and Lung Cancer Screening Grant

• This project helps to ensure that tobacco dependence treatment is fully integrated in the continuum of health care and that systems for appropriate lung cancer screening referrals have been put in place.

Cancer Plan for Michigan

• Cancer continues to affect many Michigan lives and remains the second leading cause of death in Michigan. For people under the age of 80, cancer is the leading cause of death in our state. Approximately 142 people find out they have cancer and 56 people die from cancer each day in Michigan.

• Cancer Plan for Michigan covers plans and objectives covering 2016 through 2020

• Prevent cancer from occurring. • Promote early detection of cancer using tests that have been

shown to reduce mortality. • Diagnose and treat all patients using the most effective and

appropriate methods. • Optimize quality of life for every person affected by cancer.

Objective 10- Radon Testing

• Increase the number of radon test results that are reported to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Indoor Radon Program from 7,176 to 7,894.

• Strategies: Promote radon awareness, which could include risks of exposure, Michigan radon policies, and radon testing and mitigation.

• Radon is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer deaths in the US.
