The Globe Building, Factoids

• Built in 1931, opened on 11/8/31

• Structure was originally meant to be 20 stories

• 540,000 SF with sub basement (parking garage)

• Original use was Midwest Terminal Building

• WWII, Defense Mapping Agency

• Trains ran in the basement garages

• In 1958 the Globe moved into the building

• Largest carrier hotel in Greater St. Louis area

Globe Democrat Background

• Started in 1852 as the Missouri Democrat

• Staunch advocates of freedom and anti-slavery

• 1875 merged to become Globe Democrat

• Moved into building in 1959, 1 year old

• Press capacity of 24,000, 8 page papers per hour

• 7,000 tons of paper stored in basement

• Building design perfect for data centers
