Welcome to Issue 7Hello and welcome back.

Issue 7 already - time does fly at the moment.

This time of year things always go at bit quieter in the CAMEA area due to Ramadan. But this will soon change. Big events are planned - and I must say our team is really looking forward to these events.

One of the upcoming events I would like to highlight is the PP training in Istanbul, Turkey.

Our Business Development team has organised a Production Printing training for all our distributors in September. This event will also host the official launch of the C1060-1070, C1085, C1100 and the C2250P. Application and sales training are also included in this 3-day event. Have you heard of Digital 1,2,3,4? Four more reasons not to miss this event. So please attend this training, but make sure you book in time as places are limited.

In this issue we are proud to announce that Konica Minolta has won the BLi Summer 2014 Pick Awards. Not for 1 but for 5 monochrome MFP’s. Our application PageScope Mobile was also awarded with a Summer Pick Award. Konica Minolta convinced the Jury across all areas - reliability, image quality, ease of use and productivity. Read the full press release on page 8.

Wishing you all a great Summer!

Until we meet again,

Yours,

Mark Oldfield

– 9 “Pick of the Year” monochrome products, ranging in speed from 21 ppm to 90 ppm.

– 9 “Outstanding Achievement” awards for innovative design since 2006, including essential areas such as security, print drivers, control panel design and energy efficiency.

– Industry Design Firsts: Konica Minolta was among the first vendors to offer hard drive overwrite as a standard security capability, provide optional biometric authentication, and create a customisable print driver that lets each user bring up the functions they use most on one tab.

– Bright, Consistent Colour Output is yet another differentiator for Konica Minolta. “All of Konica Minolta’s tested colour devices received high marks for both business graphics and photographic images, producing bright, saturated colour, natural flesh tones and smooth overall output.”

In 2012, Konica Minolta US became the first winner of BLI’s award for “Solutions Line of the Year” for a comprehensive portfolio of solutions that make us a trusted partner for customers who need a complete

Konica Minolta is all about quality—surpassing the competition time and time again with its colour output, ease of use, and so much more. In all, Konica Minolta has taken home an unprecedented 4 BLI “Line of the Year” awards, 28 “Pick of the Year” awards, and 10 “Outstanding Achievement” awards. Just more reasons why you should take a closer look at Konica Minolta.

Why Konica Minolta is rated the best of the best?

“What it boils down to with Konica Minolta is consistency,” says George Mikolay, BLI Senior Product Editor for A3/Copier MFPs. “No other vendor brings the same high level of performance across its product line to the same degree.”

In BLI’s rigorous two-month laboratory evaluation, Konica Minolta’s bizhub® MFPs have proven again and again that performance matters. BLI technicians have praised these MFPs for their superiority in many areas—scan speeds, print quality, colour consistency and simplicity of operation. We’ve also won BLI recognition in these other important categories:

What is your personal mission statement?

• Going my way – I have to find my way by myself, never guided by someone.

• Make the people i’m involved with or the staff happy. And at the end of the day have a good laugh.

Could you tell me a bit about yourself?

I have been working in Konica Minolta for a total of 12 years now. In Europe, I was based 3 years in Germany, where I was responsible for sales control regarding the Pan European Office business. In May 2013 I moved to Malta. My current role is Regional Sales manager for the CAMEA region. During most of my career with Konica Minolta, I’ve been abroad, including Hong Kong and China where I worked close to production side.

What is your background?

I graduated from Keio University where I majored in Commerce. During my University time I also spent 1 year in Vancouver - Canada, to study English. Where would you like to be in your career five years from now? I would like to reach a turnover of 50 million euro in the CAMEA region as soon as possible and perhaps even in the next year 2015!

Was there a person in your career who really made a difference?

There are many people who made a difference in my career but surely in each sense, there was at least one.

increase since I am responsible for the CAMEA region and visit a lot of countries because of my work.

What do you like to do most in your spare time?

When I was in Japan and Germany, I used to play football or golf. But after I moved to Malta and especially after I became a father in December 2013, my life changed totally. Now I mainly take care of my little boy during the weekend!

There’s no right or wrong answer, but if you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?

In terms of life, Japan especially Kyushu, at the West side of Japan where we can enjoy nice Sushi, Japanese BBQ and drink Sake

What’s the last book you read?

Normally I read Japanese book so it will not be for your reference. But I

like to read all types of books from fiction to economy. What would you do if you won the lottery?

Buy house in Japan as a rental property. And a nice trip somewhere in the world!

If you could choose one super hero power, what would it be and why:

I am not sure if you know Japanese Cartoon called “Doraemon”. In this cartoon, there is the tool called the “anywhere door“ this door can bring you to anywhere you want to go. But this would be problem as I can’t get any air miles from this airline…. ;-)

What is your favorite memory from childhood?

When I was a child, I lived in Paris for one year. My father was stationed there for his business. Now I regret not learning French during that period!!!

Konica Minolta wins BLi Summer 2014 Pick Awards for 5 monochrome MFPs and for its app PageScope Mobile

Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe (Konica Minolta) has won the Summer 2014 Pick Awards for its A3 monochrome multifunctional peripherals (MFP) bizhub 754e, bizhub 654e and bizhub 454e, its A4 monochrome MFPs bizhub 4750 and bizhub 4050 and its mobile application PageScope Mobile.

INFO-Palette Design – an interface enabling the easy customization and development of related applications through the utilization of an integrated protocol and a standardized API. Both systems offer scalability via Open API and reduced TCO values.

The application PageScope Mobile, which is offered both as iOS and Android mobile application convinced the jury by its robust feature set including a wide range of settings for printing and scanning and other useful functions. Moreover, its security standards are outstanding due to the jury’s opinion.

The award has been granted to Konica Minolta by Buyers Lab (BLI), an independent company that evaluates office document equipment and solution products based on an extensive list of different criteria. The Pick Awards are granted twice a year.

“In January this year, Konica Minolta already received the 2014 A3 MFP Line of the Year award four times in a row. And now we won again one important BLI award. This is the proof of the success of Konica Minolta’s ongoing quest to meet different customers’ needs across diverse work environments and of its commitment to the development of a wide range of products featuring advanced, user-friendly technology”, says Olaf Lorenz, General Manager, International Marketing Division Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe.

Konica Minolta convinced the jury across all areas - reliability, image quality, ease of use and productivity. In particular, the award has been given to the bizhub 754e,

bizhub 654e and bizhub 454e due to their high level performance and durability while giving an exceptional print image quality. Additionally, their conveniently designed control panel featuring such functions as touch and swipe scrolling convinced the jury. Office Systems Training - OSDC Malta Office

This issue brings us to our 7th Office update and I think that the topic to be discussed today is a little bit overdue. In today’s issue we will discuss the Office Systems Training which is held at our Office Systems Demo Centre (OSDC) at our Malta Office.

for discussing hardware systems – especially allocated for newcomers to the industry. If participant concerned has been long in the business and knows hardware well, we can focus more on software specifications; time allocated is flexible, depending on the situation.

Our latest participant for the OSDC Training was Mr. Jason Monreal from our distributor in Malta, OGL. I would also like to take this opportunity and congratulate Jason upon successfully attending this course; I know it was a big challenge for him since it’s his first time being exposed to this industry. Our target is that the participants would replicate the Software Solution environment they witnessed during training back at their own offices and showrooms. This would allow them to be self-sufficient in demoing the necessary software to potential clients.

Hit the link below and check out our OSDC catalogue so that you can understand better how the training is structured.

http://issuu.com/kmcamea/docs/osdc_services_catalogue/1

If you require any additional information regarding the training, contact me directly via e-mail [email protected] I would be more than glad to help.

Until the next one, ciao!

At the end of last year, we introduced a new catalogue which catered for Office Systems Training services that were possible to be offered here at our Malta Office. This training was made available to all our distributors, complimentary, at no charge. All of this was as an effort to increase awareness of the Konica Minolta Solutions Portfolio – which unarguably, will be the new way forward in our industry.

With the ‘box moving industry’ becoming a thing of the past now, our business is not solely tied to this anymore and it is a must to innovate and rejuvenate our way of doing business. Hence, we must learn to give more prominence to these emerging markets, such as the Solution Industry. Our training is aimed at doing just that. In the CAMEA region, such business might still be considered as something very new and for which reason, many still fear to accept the shift of focus from hardware business to software

business, however, the sooner we realize this, the better it will prove to be in the longer term. Being prepared and having a specialized team of employees dedicated to Software Sales and Maintenance is what will determine survival in this new and exciting industry. With this in mind, we cannot stress more the importance of such trainings.

Apart from the fact that this training is offered free of charge, we also offer financial support to those that attend the training. Each distributor is allowed to send up to two participants. Training duration is one full week and involves both hardware and software (i.e. hence the name office systems training), and with the main focus being the software side. In fact, only the first day is reserved

CAMEA Success Stories…We want to hear yours!

to Malta Office about Success Story idea.

The Distributor should send a short description of an idea for the creation of a Success Story to his responsible Business Support Manager and Shintaro Inoue (Regional Sales Manager).

This should include:

• Success Story Category (from 4 options mentioned above)

• Client Name• Number and Models of KM

machines involved• Approximate Project Value

Step 2 – Confirmation on Success Story Validity (1 week)

The Business Support Manager would evaluate internally together with the Business Development team and Sales & Marketing Support Manager to confirm the validity of the idea and prepare a structured information gathering exercise. This will usually be in the form of a questionnaire and request for associated photos and client authorization (if applicable).

Now imagine having not only your own showcase projects, but also those of your fellow Konica Minolta distributors from the rest of CAMEA to draw on. Furthermore, imagine having them recognized officially by Konica Minolta as a success story. The chance of hitting a strong similarity with a current prospect increases with the larger number of projects on file, and the fact that these are from CAMEA will make it easier for the prospects to associate with them since they will not assume that the gains made where only possible in a considerably different market like Europe or the US.

In view of this, we have put together a set of questionnaires to gather Success Stories from you, in order to evaluate and compile them accordingly. These Success Stories will typically fall under one of the following categories:

• OPS / MPS• Production Printing• Vertical Approach • Wide Format

You may also have a different category or idea in mind. In this case, please do discuss this with us for consideration. In any case, such stories should not be traditional ‘box moving’ business that is won mainly on price criteria!

Moving forward, we are putting in place a specific workflow to process these Success Stories as follows:

Step 1 – Notification by Distributor

Step 3 – Gathering of Information by the Distributor (3 weeks)

The distributor will be required to gather and submit the information requested in order to put together the Success Story. This will be according to clear and formatted requests by Malta Office in the form of fillable forms and questionnaires according to the category of Success Story being discussed.

Step 4 – Processing of information Submitted (4 weeks)

Once Malta Office receives the information from the Distributor, this will be processed and compiled into the actual success story. This can involve further coordination with the Distributor for clarifications and confirmations and will take a maximum of 4 weeks.

The above process will take a total of 8 weeks. Upon completion, the Success Story will be considered for inclusion in the CAMEA Connect newsletter and also made available to the rest of the CAMEA distributors as a marketing tool. See page 12 & 13 for a Success Story example.

We all have our showcase customers and projects… the ones we are proud of and use as references with other clients and prospects. They help us gain credibility and also to demonstrate our competence.

be more competitive. At the same time, this client also purchased the KIP C7800, to produce posters and other A0 jobs for his print shop. This machine was sold jointly by our Lagos Team headed by Mr Dare” said Mr. Debs.

Mr. Dare will be attending the PP training in Istanbul for further specialisation in September.

The second C1085 is going to the Diocese of Nnewi, in Anambra State, South-East Nigeria. The Diocese of Nnewi is a major church that will use the full option C1085 to produce and print their weekly church programs, flyers, pamphlets, burials, wedding announcements ... etc.

A lot of the big churches in Nigeria have huge printing presses,

The first C1085 was sold to a Large Print shop in Warri. Warri is one of the hubs of petroleum related businesses in Southern Nigeria. It is a commercial city in Delta State.

“Our Client has been talking about a C8000 for about 6 months now, and we converted him to a C1085 as it was just launched. We already have clients with a C8000 & C7000 in Warri, and were able to convince our client that he will have the latest and newest machine from Konica Minolta. This will able him to

and operate a separate division running commercial printing, both to cater for their own printing needs, for the church members, but also for members of the public. This machine was sold by Mrs. Roselyn who operates from our Abuja Branch.

Speaking on behalf of Konica Minolta, Ms. Beatrix Dancs, Business Support Manager for North West Africa: “I would like to pass on the congratulations to Skyst’s Sales Team. The C8000 was a successfull model in Nigeria.

Looking at the current sales of the C1085 and the C1100 we hope that these succesor models wil exceed the sales results of their predecesor and increase the Production Printing Market share for the Konica Minolta brand together with Skysat Nigerias’ team.”

Our Nigerian distributor, Syksat, was the first CAMEA distributor to sell the C1085 in our region. We spoke to Mr. Ramzi Debbs, from Skysat, to find out a bit more about not only the 1st but also the 2nd C1085 sold in our CAMEA region.

First sale(s) of the C1085 in the CAMEA Region

The C1100 has definitely arrived, Cheers!”

Speaking on behalf of Konica Minolta – Middle East Region, Senior Business Support Manager, Ted Walker was proud to be the first Area in the CAMEA Region to take delivery of Konica Minolta’s latest and fastest Digital Production Press machine. Jordan has been facing many problems over the past 3 years with the financial burdens of catering for the huge refugee problem as a result of the problems in Syria.

Despite these difficulties, Technical Equipment and Supplies Company (TESCO) have risen to the challenge and have delivered 7

“The Jordan Print and Pack is the biggest exhibition for the printing industry professional in Jordan. This is an excellent opportunity to get in touch with all major players in this field.

Following the unparalleled success we had in the first edition of this event; we are looking positively towards this event to maintain and increase our market share in the local digital printing market.

We plan to participate with the new lineup from Konica Minolta, our new flagship bizhub PRESS C1100 and the amazing series of the bizhub C1070. We are trying to increase the awareness for the superior advantages of this new series, in terms of excellent media handling, outstanding image quality and ultimately low running cost.

In cooperation with Konica Minolta CAMEA we are planning special promotions on the new models, and we are expecting to exceed the success of the first edition of the event.

Only a few months ago, the Konica Minolta booth at IPEX London had many Jordanian printing professionals visit. They showed a keen interest in Konica Minolta new flagship i.e. the bizhub C1100. We already had initiated the sales process with one of Jordans leading printing companies and are currently in the advanced stages. We expect to close the sale in the upcoming Jordan Print and Pack 2.

PRESS machines in the region since April this year.

With the current high demand for high quality, quick delivery print runs, TESCO will be displaying the latest bizhub PRESS C1100 digital printer at the the Jordan International Printing Expo from the 8th – 11th of September 2014. We are optimistic that demand will be high, both from new customers and also a number of existing Konica Minolta customers who have already purchased earlier models and are now wishing to upgrade the machines to meet the increasing demand for digital printing as the market responds to the increasing need for shorter response times for high quality printing which the traditional Offset printers are unable to respond to. We expect the C1100 and also the new C1085 models will be in high demand.

Weeks from now TESCO Jordan will be officially launching the new range of Konica Minolta production printing machines at the Jordan Print and Pack 2 exhibition. We spoke to Talal Al-Hayek - Director of Office & Printing Equipment - from Tesco.

Universal Printer Driver

be available on time for each new product launch.

2. Switchable Device Selector: We were providing in the past UPD Setup and “Device Selector” installation method, or so called “Dynamic Mode”, which was more a Mobile printing solution. However we realized that this was not best suited for Corporate Users, and decided to now also provide standard Microsoft Installation method (Add Printer, Point and Print, Print Management Console, ...), without using Device Selector, or so called “Traditional Mode”. With “Traditional Mode”, our UPD becomes a fully standard driver, without the need for complicated and proprietary KM installation methods. The switch between Dynamic Mode and Traditional Mode can be done at installation time (UPD Setup or Add Printer), as well as after Installation.

3. Mult i l ingual Suppor t (MUI): UPD now became Multi-lingual (one Driver supports all languages), allowing Multinational companies to deploy easily in their Multi-Lingual Environments.

However, we have not only waited for those recent years. Thanks to all your feedback, reports and strong pushes, we had finally achieved the start of a new development for the UPD, targeting full customer acceptance and implementation of latest requirements.

The first result of this development will be next upcoming release of UPD MR5+ which is going to be released beg. of September (this year).

This new version does not only include a big list of new items, but is already proven to be accepted by our customer base.

Within June, KMI together with the colleagues from BUS and BEU, visit several MA customers to present the new UPD version. One prominent name for this visit has been “Allianz”, which is well known to be one of our largest GMA customers.

All of those visited companies confirmed that the MR5+ is an acceptable solution and that they are (now) willing to implement the UPD from Konica Minolta.

For this proof Konica Minolta had to fight hard, as nearly all customers compared our UPD with the market reference – the HP UPD driver. But we made it.

What will the latest version offer:

1. On time for new products: UPD will now be released 4 times per year, and will

4. MSI Packages: In addition to usual Driver distribution, UPD will now also be distributed as MSI Packages. MSI packages allows distributing UPD as an Application, therefore allowing deploying using standard deployment methods or tools such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).

5. Fully scriptable: Thanks to “Traditional Mode” and MSI Packages, UPD deployment can now be fully automated by scripting, which is very appreciated in Corporate Environments.

6. PCL5 Support: UPD will now support PCL5, in addition to current PCL6 and PostScript.

7. DriverAPI: UPD will support DriverAPI, which will allow Applications and Utilities to be built to control our driver. For example, one application will be to provide a Driver Configuration Tool to allow configuring UPD default driver settings, therefore eliminating the need for many Customized drivers.

8. Administrator Resource

“Good things come to those who wait” is surely not a prominent saying in our business, especially if we do have a requirement by our (MA) customers that we couldn’t fulfill for a long time. The requirement I am talking about is the Universal Printer driver that we have offered through the recent years, which unfortunately quite often didn’t got the acceptance by our customers, especially those from the Major Account side.
