All Year Core Content1. All middle school students in the Kalamazoo Virtual Learning Plan (option 2A) will be assigned to one KPS teacher. The KPS teacher that your child is assigned to will be responsible for a minimum of two two-way communications each week. Two-way communication may include phone calls, Google Meet, text, and e-mail. The communication will be initiated by the teacher and conversations will focus primarily on academics.
All Year Core Content2. In the Home Access Center (HAC), students/families will see the student’s schedule with other KPS teachers based on the specific content areas (ELA, math, science, and social studies). Students are not required to attend or participate in any synchronous or “live” lessons with these teachers. The KPS teacher that your child is assigned to will provide the names, contact information, and availability of other core teachers who will give academic feedback within the Calvert platform throughout the course.
3. Students and families can initiate communication to any of the four core content area teachers.
All Year Core Content4. Families of students with disabilities who receive services through an IEP, will be contacted by their assigned caseload resource instructor to discuss and develop Distance Learning Plans to provide support during the 2020-2021 school year.
All School Year Algebra I 8th Grade Students
1. All 8th grade students taking Algebra I will be assigned to GradPoint. GradPoint is a password protected system that requires a teacher to unlock assessments.
2. The GradPoint teacher will be available by phone, Google Meet, text, or e-mail. The GradPoint teacher will provide the students/families with their contact information and schedule.
3. There will be no live synchronous lessons. All work will be done asynchronously.
All School Year Algebra I 8th Grade Students
When a student is ready to take an assessment, then he or she will contact the assigned GradPoint teacher to proceed. Please understand that students who work late into the evening and need a password will receive a response from the GradPoint teacher the following business day.
Trimester 1 - Electives1. Students are scheduled into two synchronous electives with KPS teachers.
2. Students must abide by all attendance expectations for the class.
3. A Google Classroom will be available. Lessons will be taught and recorded via Google Meet.
Trimester 1 - Electives4. If a family would not like their child to take the two KPS electives, then the family can select to opt-out. By opting out, the student will be enrolled in two elective courses via Calvert. The two electives will be Basic Fitness I and Health for the entire school year. The opt-out form will be available on the KVLP website Wednesday, September 2 at 7:00 pm and it will close Sunday, September 6 at 7:00 pm. The opt-out is only for families who would like to have their child removed from the two synchronous KPS electives and placed into two asynchronous Calvert electives.
