ter to this obedience to God must be rejected. In theLord, thereore, places this social structure itsel, as wellas all social structures, under the critical judgment o theGospel. Nobody wishing to live the Gospel can avoidthe tensions o an imperect world. Te ethical sectiono the epistle does not allow us to orget this.

We can only stand amazed at the way in which the

Epistle to the Colossians lays out beore us, as it were witha single gesture, the ullness that is in Christ, his cosmicrole and his primacy, whilst at the same time showingus where this ullness must be lived out: in our everydayrelationships with each other.
