DRIVING PEACE OF MINDA clean, efficient driving experience is at the heart of the Citroën brand. Our cars are designed to the highest environmental standards and fuel-efficiency is a major priority for our engineers. The Citroën C5 takes this even further, ensuring optimised CO2 levels by cutting pollutant emissions with its electronically controlled high pressure direct injection diesel engines, as well as its multi-valve petrol engines.
ENERGY SAVER® TYRESWith a reduction in rolling resistance of 20%, Michelin’s Energy Saver® tyres, fitted on HDi 110 manual VTR+ NAV models, reduce the amount of energy needed to propel the car along the road which results in a reduction in the fuel consumption. This is achieved with no loss of grip or stability, with shorter stopping distances in wet conditions. The tyre’s innovative architecture generates fuel savings of nearly 0.5 litres per 100km (in combined cycle), resulting in a reduction in CO2 emissions of nearly 19g/km and around one tonne less CO2 over the entire life of a Citroën C5.
BIG IDEAS, SMALL FOOTPRINT15 years of development have gone into our HDi direct injection engines, making them refined and frugal. In combination with a beautifully simple Stop & Start system and sophisticated EGS gearbox, the e-HDi 110 Airdream EGS6 can achieve 62.8mpg and CO2 emissions of only 117g/km.
The EGS gearbox is an advanced transmission that lets you select either effortless full automatic shifts, or manual changes via the steering wheel mounted paddles. It’s part of what makes Citroën efficient engineering unique. Stop & Start puts the engine into idle mode as you decelerate and stops altogether as you come to a halt. The moment you take your foot off the brake, it restarts silently and without vibration. It helps to reduce CO2 by about 5g/km and fuel consumption by 15% in the city.

PROACTIVE SAFETYSafety is not optional on the Citroën C5, with a lengthy standard of accident-avoiding technology putting you in control. It has an advanced braking system with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Braking Assistance (EBA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) so you can stay on guard in all conditions. And if you do find yourself in an unexpectedly hairy situation, you can rely on sophisticated added safety measures – such as traction control and hazard warning lights activated automatically when the ABS operates.
ADAPT TO IMPACTWith a reinforced outer shell, the Citroën C5 has been designed for endurance as well as performance. The front end features upper and lower energy absorbers which provide cushioning on impact, while the cabin structure is also reinforced to create a strong passenger survival cell. In the Citroën C5, you and your passengers are obsessively protected from every direction – with up to nine airbags cushioning against front, side and head impact. In the passenger seat, there’s optional airbag de-activation and importantly for the driver, not only does the steering column retract by 65mm, but thanks to the fixed-centred controls steering wheel, your airbag always deploys at the safest possible angle.
STRENGTH AND POISE Even when it’s stopped, the Citroën C5 doesn’t sleep. It’s constantly on alert for dangerous situations, with anti-theft alarm and deadlocks fitted as standard. Automatic re-locking after 30 seconds gives you extra peace of mind, and with protective laminated side windows fitted on Exclusive models to guard against intruders, the Citroën C5 is reassuringly defended.

HARNESSING PROTECTIONEven the most basic details – such as seat belts – have been thoroughly considered. The Citroën C5’s front seat belts are height-adjustable and fitted with force-limiters. DETECTION PACKS 1 & 2With the Citroën C5’s front and rear parking sensors, the audible warning increases in frequency the nearer you get to an obstacle – even sounding from the left or right speaker depending on which side the obstacle is. Meanwhile, the multi-function screen shows six detection zones to warn you of obstacles you wouldn’t ordinarily be aware of. Detection packs also include the parking space ‘gap’ measurement system – which scans the necessary spaces before telling you whether the parking manoeuvre is possible, difficult or inadvisable.
NAVIDRIVE PACK AND CONCERT PACKThe NaviDrive Pack available on Exclusive models is the control hub of the Citroën C5 – and a masterpiece in sophisticated technology. The 30GB hard drive contains 20GB for European mapping, so even as you cross borders you can pinpoint your position exactly. FIXED-CENTRED CONTROLS STEERING WHEELA Citroën innovation that makes for safer driving in every way. Whilst the rim of the steering wheel turns normally, the centre hub remains static which means that all the audio, information and driving controls operated from here stay in exactly the same place. It also means that the driver’s airbag can be specially sculpted to deploy more favourably than the round ones necessary in cars with conventional steering wheels.
HYDRACTIVE 3+ SUSPENSIONAn outstanding Citroën invention built on the company’s renowned hydropneumatic sphere platform, Hydractive 3+ suspension offers the ultimate in driver control and passenger comfort. To begin with, the car maintains a constant ride height at all times regardless of load (either weight or force) which ensures excellent driver control. In addition, electronic sensors read the road and driving style hundreds of times a second and adapt the hydraulic damping accordingly, maintaining perfect poise. The driver is also able to select two different suspension modes designed for varying degrees of comfort or sporty driving. The system is maintenance free for five years or 200,000km.
CONNECTING BOXIntegrated Bluetooth® hands-free phone function with USB socket and jack to plug in a portable MP3 player.
MYWAY COLOUR SATELLITE NAVIGATIONMyWay is completely integrated into the vehicle which avoids the risk of theft. The design has been created for ease of use and with steering wheel controls, navigating from your phone to the satellite navigation couldn’t be any easier.MyWay allows you to define routes, stops and places of interest with the added benefit of vocal instruction. MyWay also provides live traffic updates of any congestion spots or delays.A GPS integrated aerial is built into the vehicle, to maximise the reception of satellite information; therefore permitting an accurate location of the car.
ADAPTIVE FRONT-LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS)Designed specifically to aid safety when driving in the dark, Citroën C5’s static AFS provides an extra light at the front when turning a corner at low speeds. Also, see Xenon dual-function Directional Headlamps with cornering lights for dynamic AFS.
PHILIPS HI-FI SYSTEMThe Philips Hi-Fi system has just some of the following features: Dolby surround sound, made to measure acoustics, spatial sounds specially developed and configurated for the passenger compartment, 1 subwoofer, high digital signal processor, digital amplifier and 8 Philips speakers.
XENON DUAL-FUNCTION DIRECTIONAL HEADLAMPS WITH CORNERING LIGHTSA dynamic AFS with lamps that respond to the steering, adjusting the direction of the beam in the direction of the turn by up to 15 degrees. These headlamps contain a directional twin xenon elliptical module for use in the dipped and full-beam positions, andacomplexsurface“long-range”halogen unit for full-beam only. This combined assembly delivers an extremely high level of forward visibility.
HIGH-PRESSURE DIRECT INJECTION DIESEL ENGINEOur HDi diesel engines operate with the fuel under extremely high pressure, enabling microscopically precise injection control. With this level of management it’s possible to inject at different times during the same engine stroke allowing total control over the combustion process. This has allowed our engineers to reduce carbon monoxide emissions by 40%, unburned hydrocarbons by 50% and engine particulates by 60%. Fuel consumption is 20% lower than a prechamber diesel engine, resulting in an equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions and thanks to the torque available at low engine speed it could be argued that driveability is now better than in petrol engined cars.
e-HDi DIESEL ENGINEThe e-HDi 110 Airdream EGS6 engine is capable of 62.8mpg and CO2 emissions of just 117g/km combined with the EGS gearbox. It has a reversible starter-alternator that works in tandem with an e-booster to provide a seamless Stop & Start function. Going further than other similar systems, the e-HDi’s Stop & Start puts the engine into idle mode while decelerating before coming to a complete standstill. This reduces consumption by 15% in urban driving.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS)Computer-controlled braking assistance designed to prevent the wheels from locking under extreme braking. This enables the car to continue being steered and therefore controlled during this braking incident. The Citroën C5’s ABS system is further enhanced with EBA and EBD (see below).
ELECTRONIC BRAKEFORCE DISTRIBUTION (EBD)A conventional ABS system cannot account for any of the four wheels wanting to lock more quickly than the others (for example, two of the wheels may be on snow and two on tarmac). EBD reads the deceleration rate of each wheel individually and applies the ABS principles accordingly.
EMERGENCY BRAKING ASSISTANCE (EBA)As drivers we find it difficult to instinctively brake very hard, but this is often what is needed in those rare emergency situations. The EBA system recognises our ‘attempt’ to brake hard and in combination with the ABS and EBD systems instantly applies the maximum stopping power possible.
ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAMME (ESP)This is computer-controlled traction assistance and is provided primarily through the braking systems. The ESP’s control unit constantly compares where the driver intends going (through the position of the steering wheel) with where the vehicle is actually going and, if necessary, makes speed corrections to each wheel individually through braking or engine torque to keep the vehicle ‘in line’.
ISOFIXA standardised and more simple method for installing child seats, each seat is ‘clicked’ into place via a three point system. On the Citroën C5, Isofix is installed on the two outer rear seats.
