2. How are the leaders of Cuba selected?

Election for President and Vice Presidents

- People don’t get to vote.- The president and vice president must be first nominated

by one municipality and then must be elected by the members of the National Assembly.

- But the problem is the system of elections does not involve multiple parties, and in most cases not even multiple candidates

- The Council of State:  (Executive Branch) – appoint the Minister of health, education and so on

- Line of Succession

4. Is there a peaceful way to change the government?

No because it’s a communist country, who have a single party.

5. Do government leaders follow the rule of law?

Leaders in Cuba violates people’s human rights. They restrict free press and banned strikes. Anyone who opposes the government might be arrested and some are imprisoned.

In the past corruption in Cuba was a common thing, but 15 years ago Fidel Castro set up an anti-corruption ministry to dissolve this problem in the government. Ever since then, if a high ranking official becomes corrupt it is dealt with harshly. For example, in 2001 the fishing minister was made redundant when he received what officials call “unacceptable gifts.”

The following table shows more of the lower ranked officials corruption as they have proven to be harder to control the actions of.
