Parents and carers came among to encourage and cheer on the students and it was impressive that every student completed the course with an “I can do it” attitude. Well done to Keilani who achieved an impressive 7th place and is 1st reserve for the regional team. An excursion to Centennial Park consolidates the learning for stage two and three. Learning about the water ways, recreational areas, the environment and sustainability were all on the agenda as stage two and three enjoyed an outdoor learning experience last Thursday. Students had an engaging series of lessons in the outdoors and returned with deep knowledge about the local environment just on our doorstep. Listening to the feedback and enthusiasm from the students, many families might just be having a picnic outing there in their near future to explore the beautiful wetlands! Book Fair Our school is holding its annual Book Fair on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the library this week. Students may purchase books before school or after school and parents and carers may also visit at this time. The books are reasonably priced and make a wonderful treat for students to enjoy their very own book at home. QUALITY STAFF INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS VALUED PARENT AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Ideas to help kids and teens drink more water* Don’t keep sweetened drinks at home; make cold water available in-stead.* Serve plain water in decorative jugs. Add slices of lemon, orange or mint for

flavour.* Pack a water bottle whenever you go out.* Pack a water bottle in your child’s lunch box.* When playing sport, encourage your children to drink water rather than sports drinks or ener-gy drinks and ensure your child has water for sports on Fridays.

Best way to get your child healthy and active?Be an active role model! As it is the little things that become routine. Why not try:

* Taking the stairs instead of the lift* Walk or play with your kids before or after din-ner* Walk short distances to run errands* Get off a stop earlier when using public trans-port* Try and learn a new skill together e.g. juggling, hula hooping, striking a ball, cartwheeling

Our senior debaters commence their competitionOur senior debaters competed in the first round of the debating competition on Thursday. Matraville hosted the competition in the school hall and the students did a magnificent job in affirming that “Homework should be banned”. Our stage two and three students were an encouraging audience and enjoyed the entertaining debate. It’s wonderful to see our students supporting each other in their learning!

Reconciliation Week starts with a moving tribute at the Indigenous Veteran’s CeremonyA team of indigenous students, parents and carers attended the Indigenous Veteran’s Ceremony in Hyde Park last Friday, and laid a wreath on behalf of the school community. The service is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterans made on behalf of the country. Congratulations to our students who represented the school with pride and integrity.
