How to livewell during COVID-19Eat Well at Home - Poor nutrition, be it notenough or poor quality food, can compromiseimmune function and increase infection risk. COVID-19 has been caused by severe acuterespiratory syndrome (SARS). This makes anyefforts to prevent respiratory infection risks, reduce inflammation and strengthen overallimmunity critical. Vitamins and minerals are vital forstrengthening the immune system. Severalvitamins and minerals are essential;particularly vitamin A, C, D, E, B2 (riboflavin),B6 (pyridoxine), B12 (cobalamin) and B9 (folicacid) along with minerals like Iron, Selenium,Zinc, Magnesium and Copper. Families during COVID-19Child attendance to A&E - There has been amarked reduction in children attending A&E, asign that some parents may be delayingseeking medical help for their children. Much of this is due to the misunderstandingthat all NHS services are focusing oncoronavirus and normal services are notoperating. Self-isolation, social distancing, the fear ofinfection in hospital, are also things which maycause a delay in seeking help for a sick child. However, these delays could cause children tobecome more poorly than they should do. It is important that parents know what to do iftheir child becomes unwell. A contact sheethas been approved by NHS England to helpparents understand who to contact and whento seek help or advice. Local medical professionals have also createda helpful video explaining to parents about theservices available and when to seek help fortheir child. These are just some of the resourcesavailable from the Essex SafeguardingChildren Board website. As well as generalinformation about the pandemic, there arespecific resources for families includingemotional wellbeing and home-schooling linksand a summary of changes to children andfamilies support services in Essex.
