CHAPTER 10 – POLYNOMIALS AND FACTORING10.2 – Multiplying Polynomials
10.2 – MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS
Today we will be learning how to: Multiply 2 polynomials
Use polynomial multiplication to in real life situations
10.2 – MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS
In section 2.6 we learned how to multiply a polynomial by a monomial using the distributive property.
(3x)(2x2 – 5x + 3) =

Example 1 Find the product (x + 8)(x – 7)
10.2 – MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS
Example 2 Find the product (2x + 3)(5x + 1)
10.2 – MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS
To multiply two polynomials that have three or more terms, remember:
EACH TERM OF ONE POLYNOMIAL MUST BE MULTIPLIED BY EACH TERM OF THE OTHER POLYNOMIAL
Use a vertical or horizontal format
10.2 – MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS
Example 3 – vertical Find the product (x – 4)(5x + 9 – 2x2)
10.2 – MULTIPLYING POLYNOMIALS
Example 4 – horizontal Find the product (5x2 – x – 3)(6x – 5)
