INTRODUCTION

This bibliography compiles writings concerning state appellate

caseload and delay problems, especially writings that discuss methods to

deal with the problems. The bibliography attempts to include all books,

articles, and reports that give more than passing reference to these

topics. It includes only discussions of state courts, and includes only

materials issued after 1965. It does not include statutes, courts rules,

and state court annual reports.

The bibliography will be updated from time to time. The reader is

encouraged to inform the author about omissions or inaccurate references.

The first section contains general writings that pertain to more than

one state, and the subsequent sections contain writings about specific ,

states. The bibliograpny is not arranged by subject matter, but there

are tentative plans to code the entries so that writings about specific

topics can be readily located.

Preparation of the bibliography was supported by Grant No.

83-IJ-CX-4046 from the National Institute of Justice to the Appellate

Justice Center. The author, however, is solely responsible for the

contents.
