WHO ARE WE?

Michel & Robert Michel LEGRAND - 46

Post graduate in History and Communication – Sorbonne university

National Licensed Tour Guide & Lecturer – Nice Sophia Antipolis university

“While digging his private individual one meets the universal” wrote Maurice Chapelan. A quote which has given rhythm to my daily life for over 15 years of guiding. I’ve always strived to show my region in a way which speaks to my clients, leaving them with memories that resonates for a lifetime. We live in a world-renowned area, where most of the marvels still remain unknown. A region where unfortunately the tourism is standardized. At 1388 we decided to change that, not only by showing something different, but also by doing it uniquely. With us your clients will be able to discover the amazing sites of the Riviera, the upper country, a history and a culture which are not stereotypical, with the ability to live a true and authentic experience. A passionate runner I also organize the only running tours of Southeastern France, a great and original way to visit Nice. A bientôt!

Michel

Robert DAHAN - 52 Post graduate in Philosophy

I believe the key of success in this business is to behave naturally as a generous, honest and rigorous professional. My aim every time I am on my way to greet you is « making your day », literally. Well, it sounds like an easy and simple goal but it is not; it means understanding your wishes and expectations, those you expressed clearly but also surprising you, giving rise to emotion that will last much longer than your day with me. You, traveler, are very important to me, because I understand you expect a lot from a tour guide and the service he provides I would like to take you out with me like a group of friends would enjoy a glass of good wine: it is all about sharing, celebrating life, new experiences and emotions, laughs and pleasure.

Cheers!

Robert

No other city in France offers such a variety of architecture types and styles than the capital of the French Riviera, also known to host the first baroque heritage of France. American Riviera

A unique journey through the roaring twenties, literature and arts

"You are a lost generation" said Gertrude Stein to Ernst Hemingway. Thus, the term was born. During the roaring twenties a whole generation of American writers left the US for Europe, and for more than a decade a lot of them considered the French Riviera their second home. That’s where they met the great names of modern art such as Picasso, Leger or Matisse, as well as some of their most renowned fellow countrymen, generating a unique artistic dynamic. While the first summer season was established in 1925, they gave the Riviera the face we know today. We’ll give you the opportunity to discover the seaside from Fréjus to Antibes, passing by the Gold Corniche, Cannes and Golfe-Juan, on the path of F. Scott Fitzgerald, E. Hemingway, J. Dos Passos, J. Mac Kay, Charlie Chaplin and many others. A cultural tour, accessible to everyone, as well as a journey through the beauty of the French Riviera. Discover the house where “Great Gatsby” was written, the Hemingway beach in Mandelieu, the district inspired by Miami beach in Antibes, also the roman port founded by Julius Caesar, the most famous coastal road in Europe and much more. To create this tour we searched the archives to find what Pierre Nora called "sites of memory", and we designed an itinerary between memory and dream. "Is it any better in heaven, my friend Ford, than you found it in Provence?" —William Carlos Williams Experiences: Read “Garden of Eden” on Hemingway’s beach, listen to a reading of Dos Passos at La Garoupe, and follow the paths of some legends of American literature. Encounter with the wolf

Family escapade in the gorgeous “Switzerland of Nice”

The Vésubie valley is a postcard, also known as the “little Switzerland of Nice". At the bottom of the valley, at the Mercantour’s gates, is located the Alpha park dedicated to wolves. In breathtaking scenery, you will not only discover the fascinating predator, but also understand the relations which link man to the mountain’s wildlife through several scenographies (English earphones). An incredible experience as well as a striking encounter. On the way, through the old plateau of Valdeblore and the Tinée valley, you will discover some picturesque villages frozen in time centuries ago like Saint-Dalmas and its millennium church. There, facing the black wood, it’s difficult to imagine you're only one hour away from Nice. You will then visit Saint-Martin-Vésubie, where the European aristocracy used to stay during the summer season, and where a mill turned museum tells the story of a forgotten time. In its charming streets you will find the cheese of the valley, the local beer and many memories. Before reaching Nice you will drive the impressive Vésubie canyon, a stony farewell to the Alps. Experiences: Meet the wolves in their element, visit lost mountain villages, picnic in the Alps. Monaco, now and then

The Principality through the ages, with Menton and Roquebrune

The Principality of Monaco is much more than what people believe. Beyond the exclusive resort for an international jet set, it's a fascinating story, an epic! Let our guide tell you the history of the only nation in the world founded by a single family, the Grimaldi, and spend a day in the last example of a European city state. To appreciate the "authentic” Monaco, you must understand how an isolated perched village became, through the centuries, a prosperous country which attracts the largest fortunes of the world. For that, we’ll take you to Menton, the gorgeous "pearl of France" and to Roquebrune, a typical medieval village with the oldest castle in France, both were part of Monaco up to 1848, both equally splendid. You will then discover the second smallest country in the world with a different perspective. Visit Monte-Carlo and its famous casino, the historic town perched on "the Rock", the antique port Hercules, the Larvotto seaside and its Japanese’s garden, the reclaimed land of Fontvieille , and of course the legendary circuit of the F1 Grand prix. On request, see the exotic garden, or the ancient car collection of the Prince, or the prehistoric museum, or visit the palace. Entrance fees not included. With us, you will follow the scenic roads and enjoy the best panoramas. Itinerary: Upper corniche, Menton, Roquebrune village, Cap Martin, Rock of Monaco, F1 grand prix, Japanese garden, Monte-Carlo, Fontvieille. Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Tourrettes-sur-Loup, Gourdon & Hauts-de-Cagnes

The Loup valley lies in the middle of the "flower hills", picturesque countryside where men built mineral villages, hundreds of years ago. Following the road of the balconies of the Riviera is, somehow, like tasting the charms of Provence. Over there centuries left a perfume of eternity on every site. Your journey will start with the Haut-de-Cagnes, built around the Grimaldi castle, a staircase village which attracted many famous painters. A side road will then take you to “les Courmettes”, land of herds, where you have the option to visit a goat farm and taste the organic cheese. The loneliness of the heights

Take your breath away among the summits

Fine arts have been developed to communicate what words can’t describe. In the heights of the Southern Alps you will (re)discover the power of nature and the infinite beauty of the world. Choose one of the programs below:

- All alone in the world. On a road so secret that it doesn’t appear on many maps you won’t be disturbed by anything but the sound of birds of prey. Once you reach the Col de la Sinne and discover the village of Ilonse surrounded by mountain ranges, time will stop.

- The Val d’Entraunes is still today the most isolated valley of the Alpes-Maritimes. For hundreds of years it was so isolated it developed its own culture. The drive to the Col de la Cayolle is legendary and once at the top, the world opens.

- Travel the highest road in Europe with the Col de la Bonnette. Not only the

panoramic vistas purely breathtaking, but also along the way you will discover the traditions of the Alps in villages like Saint-Dalmas-le-Selvage, Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée, Le Pra and Bousieyas.

- La Madone de la Fenestre, was the oldest access to the Piemonte region, where the “salt road” used to pass through a window (fenestre). In the monastery can be seen the famous black virgin, object of so many ancient legends, the main gate to the Mercantour National Park.

Completely off the beaten path, for determined visitors looking for true authenticity. For lunch, beside the picnic, you will have no other option in Ilonse or at La Madone de Fenestre, try a traditional mountain restaurant in the Val d’Entraunes, or in Bousieyas. Traditional French picnic: 16€/pp

Italian escapade

The Ligurian flavors of the Ponant Riviera

Of course there is no place like France! But… Despite our proverbial chauvinism we must recognize that beneath the border lies a land of beauty, culture, art and gastronomy which is hard to match. The Ponant Riviera used to be seen as the continuation of the French Riviera, and Sanremo or Bordighera used to attract kings and queens from all over Europe. Both will be a perfect introduction to the specialty of this part of Italy: the production of flowers. Here every inch is covered with green houses. But no doubt that the best remains hidden behind the soft hills, just a few minutes away from the seaside. We invite you to journey through the villages of Dolceacqua which fascinated Monet who came to paint the little bridge; and Apricale, a postcard of Italy. And for lunch… che meraviglia! The markets are unique, the gastronomy world famous, the people wonderful, the time slow, the colors eternal. There is no place in the world like Italy! A hidden valley

Be surprised, be amazed, swim in rivers and walk hidden villages

In the Alpes-Maritimes, the valleys runs north to south, receiving the influence of the sea…. except one. The Estéron valley which runs east to west, from Gilette to Saint-Auban. For centuries, it has been the borderline between Savoy and France, withstanding numerous conflicts, but at the same time developing a unique identity we help you discover for yourself. Ask anyone living on the seaside, where they would hide for a get-a-way weekend. If they want to see villages untouched for hundreds of years? The answer is the same: the Estéron valley. Gilette, the “cats village”, is represented in the battle wing of the Versailles castle since a great victory took place here in the 18th century; Gars is probably the only village still a secret to this day and the rare inhabitants want to keep it that way. It is a little heaven; Cigale is listed as one of the most beautiful village of the region a “must see”; Pierrefeu is so timeless its museum is called “out of time”. In the Departmental Park of the Estéron you will swim in a river renowned for its purity, and at a point we will take you to a “clue”. “A clue” is the product of the combined efforts of the river and the mountain joining to create a natural slide. The Estéron host some of the finest ones. The most adventurous ones will include a canyoning session. Experiences: Swim the Estéron, discover unknown villages full of charm, organize a canyoning session, discover the mysterious fortresses on the mountainside, see one of the famous painted chapels.
