Port-as-a-ClassroomBy: Grant Jimmerson
The Economic ImpactThe Port of Brunswick has a major impact in
a lot of areasYou get to learn a lot of knowledge about
many things, including the portPort as a Classroom is fun and educational! You even get to have many awesome tours.I will tell you all about this
Imports and ExportsMany cars come out of the Port of Brunswick,
including Ford, GM, Mercedes, and ToyotasThe port also imports cars like Jaguars, Porsches,
Land Rovers, Mitsubishis, and Volvos. Other Exports include corn and oatsBrunswick is the primary car import port due to
the number of imported automobilesBrunswick also imports Ro/Ro ships, with 12% of
the imports of these ships612,489 auto and machinery units were handled
in CY2012
What Countries Come To and From the Port of Brunswick? There have been ships from the Philippines,
China, Japan, Germany, and Spain. This would be a great experience for a fan of
Geography because you get to meet many people from different countries around the world.
This could teach about different languages and cultures.
This could also help you in Model UN and Social Studies classes because you learn about cultures.
Why is the U.S. dependent on the port? The Port of Brunswick is a big help with
exporting vehicles.Without the port, we would be well over
300,000 cars less. Also the port supplies us with corn and
grains. This is excellent because the demand for corn
has gone up steadily over the years.Without this knowledge you could not no that
Brunswick has numerous things!
Port Interactions with StudentsEvery few months you get to have a field trip
to the port. You get tour ships, see how things are made,
and get to do very fun things. You get to have a great time with the
wonderful people who guide you through this project.
The EndThank you for watching and listening. I hope
you have a great Port-as-a-Classroom experience.
