Mixed #’s have wholes and parts of a whole.

You get a mixed # from an improper fraction.

An improper fraction is where the numerator is bigger than the denominator.

Example: 20/17

Improper fractions

When adding fractions add only the numerators.

Example:2/4+1/4=3/4

Adding fractions

When subtracting fractions subtract onlythe numerator.

Example: 2/3 -1/3=

Subtracting Fractions

When multiplying fractions you multiply both the numerators together. Then multiply both denominators.

Example: ½ x1/2= 1/4

Multiplying fractions

When dividing fractions, multiply the divisor by the reciprocal of the dividend.

Example: 2/3 ¾

2/3 X 4/3 = 8/9

Dividing Fractions
