Nursing- Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records.

Forensic Science Technician -Collect, identify, classify, and analyze physical evidence related to criminal investigations. Perform tests on weapons or substances.

Nursing Duties Working with a variety of patients, from pediatric to

geriatric, or specializing in one of numerous possible areas Observing and recording patient behavior Consulting with physicians and other healthcare

professionals Establishing treatment plans, operating medical equipment Supervising licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and certified

nurse assistants (CNAs) Performing diagnostic tests Treating medical emergencies Administering medications and treatments

Working Conditions

Work in healthcare facilities but some home health and public health nurses travel to their patients' homes, schools, community centers and other sites.

May spend a lot of their time walking and standing.

Need to be able to cope well with stress. Nurses are also in close contact with patients who

have infectious diseases In hospitals and surgery centers, nursing

schedules consist of rotating shifts to cover 24-hour patient care.

Training and Qualifications

Nursing diploma BSN degree (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) ADN degree (Associate of Science in Nursing) When you finally completed any program, you

need to pass NCLEX-RN. According to National Council State Boards of

Nursing, a candidate must fulfill these qualifications:

You must be a graduate of any state-approved nursing program.

You must be an NCLEX examination passer. You must provide an honest self-report on any chemical

dependencies, criminal convictions, and functional ability deficits.

When accomplishing these requirements and the specific qualifications in you state, you may now obtain your RN license.

Forensic Science Duties Crime Scene Duties

Work in two places: on crime scenes and in crime labs. Responsible for the careful collection and preservation of evidence, brainstorming and helping to reconstruct crimes.

Lab DutiesInterpret evidence collected from crime scenes. This includes identifying unknown substances and objects, theorizing about their relevancy and relationship to the suspect and victim. Identify drug powders or determine which type of gun fired a bullet. Then, forensic techs compile and document the results of analysis into reports.

Consultation and Testimony DutiesMay consult with experts in various fields to enhance and clarify their own interpretations of collected evidence. Testify in court and report to police departments about the evidence collected and the techniques used in the lab to analyze it.

Training and Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree to work in crime labs. Extensive amounts of on-the-job training are required for both

those who investigate crime scenes and those who work in labs. Need a bachelor’s degree in either forensic science or a natural

science such as biology or chemistry. During their apprenticeship, investigators learn proper

procedures and methods for collecting and documenting evidence.

They learn laboratory specialties on the job. The length of this training varies by specialty. Most DNA-analysis training programs last six to 12 months, but

firearms-analysis training may last up to three years. Need to pass a proficiency exam before they may perform

independent casework or testify in court. Throughout their careers, they need to keep abreast of advances

in technology and science that improve the collection or analysis of evidence.

Tuition for both of them will be close.

Getting a job is more difficult for Forensic Science Technicians

Forensic Science Technician is all about how people die and nursing is saving peoples lives.
