The Board met in February for the first time this year. The uniqueness of this meeting was that our newest supporting manufacturer, SEM Products, hosted the meeting. Steve Fussy, George Krul and a host of other SEM Team members made us feel welcomed and appreciated for making the trip to Rock Hill, South Carolina. The morning at SEM started with Steve Fussy giving us a brief introduction to the company followed by a facility tour. What was so impressive to me was how friendly all of the employees of the

company were to us. Hey, I am talking about everyone! The guy driving the forklift in the warehouse stopped, smiled and acknowledged us as we walked through his area of responsibility. The employees working the production line would look up and give us a smile and were extremely happy to tell us about

Aluminum F-150—What You Need to Know to Get Your Shop Ready

Don’t Fear the Change The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. Hopefully this TIP will help the reader understand the realities of repairing the 2015 Aluminum Ford F-150. It has been said by many that repairing the Aluminum F-150 is actually easier than its steel predecessor in many ways. Those that work through the fear, and make the initial investment will quickly realize the opportunities this technology presents. And guess what? It’s not nearly as bad as many of you may fear!

A few facts about the Aluminum F-150 Ford has been producing the Aluminum F-150 in small quantities since 2009. They have been thoroughly tested! The frame is still made out of high strength steel. The entire truck body and bed are aluminum (the firewall is steel & radiator support is magnesium). Two alloys of aluminum are used: 1. 6022 Non-structural / 2. 6111 Structural The truck bed floors are made of a thicker aluminum that are much less dent resistant than steel. The switch to aluminum saves over 700 pounds of vehicle weight compared to its steel predecessor.

DESCRIPTION: A tack free, lightweight autobody filler designed to reduce sandpaper clogging and sand to a fine finish.

DIRECTIONS

PREPARATION: Clean surface. Remove all dirt, oil, grease and wax. Use a 40-80 grit disc to remove paint. NOTE: Coarse grinding along with improper mixing and application increases pinholes. Surface must be completely dry before application. MIXING: Place desired amount of filler on a clean, non-fibrous mixing board. Add a ribbon of cream hardener from edge to edge across the center of a 4" in diameter puddle of filler (2% by weight). Puddles larger than 4" in diameter will require additional hardener. Mix thoroughly until uniform color is achieved. Approximate setting time is 5-6 minutes @ 75˚ to 80˚ F (27˚ C). APPLICATION: Spread a thin layer of mixed material over surface using firm pressure to assure fewer pinholes and proper adhesion. Apply additional layers building area slightly higher than the surface to allow for sanding. FINISH: Sandable in approximately 20 minutes. Rough sand hardened filler to desired contour. Finish sand with finer grit sandpaper. Never return mixed filler to can; keep can closed and store in a cool place.

BOLD GOLD is a premium body filler formulated with the highest grade tack free and stain resistant resin.

DIRECTIONS

PREPARATION: Clean surface. Remove all dirt, oil, grease and wax. Use a 40-80 grit disc to remove paint. NOTE: Coarse grinding along with improper mixing and application increases pinholes. Surface must be completely dry before application. MIXING: Place desired amount of filler on a clean, non-fibrous mixing board. Add a ribbon of cream hardener from edge to edge accross the center of a 4" in diameter puddle of filler (2% by weight). Puddles larger than 4" in diameter will require additional hardener. Mix thoroughly until uniform color is achieved. Approximate setting time is 5-6 minutes @ 75˚ to 80˚ F (27˚ C). APPLICATION: Spread a thin layer of mixed material over surface using firm pressure to assure fewer pinholes and proper adhesion. Apply additional layers building area slightly higher than the surface to allow for sanding. FINISH: Sandable in approximately 20 minutes. Rough sand hardened filler to desired contour. Finish sand with finer grit sandpaper. Never return mixed filler to can; keep can closed and store in a cool place.
