But the difference is, we mean it, over the years we have put different programmes in place to support all our staff. This is done through training programmes and support for staff that are interested in further their academic career. We currently have a number of staff on Master programme, project management, Quantity surveying and so on. Keen to implement changes that make everybody’s life more comfortable a number of areas highlighted were adopted in subsequent management events. The area of team bonding and cross interaction between Head Office personnel and Site Management teams was a significant change in emphasis at the management event and proved to be an instant success. Instead of sitting through a full day of facts and figures, the opportunity to engage in a relaxed and social setting was widely embraced to the delight of all. In 2016 this element of team bonding took a step urther when a ‘tag rugby’ event was organised at the CMM in Carton House. With teams split into two groups and a good cross mix of all staff, the ‘mini’ games were an immediate hit where everyone that wanted to participate got the opportunity to do so. It certainly provided plenty of laughter and comradery late on into the night as part of the next social gathering. (A Selection of Tag Rugby Photographs can be seen at the end of this document) In 2015 Clancy also moved the goalposts in terms of key note address speakers. Following a succession of industry related speakers, all most proficient and expert in their field, Clancy embarked down the route of motivational speakers. Former All-Ireland winning manager with Tipperary in 2010 Liam Sheedy, Bank of Ireland, gave a tremendous address at the Fota Island Resort event and using the symbolism of ‘red and green platforms’ charted key principles for growth and goal setting. John O’ Shaughnessy Managing Director at Clancy

Like most companies we believe that our people are our strongest asset.

In 2015 Clancy also moved the goalposts in terms of key note address speakers.

When realised and embraced not only by individuals but also the company as an entity, these principles would lead to the future betterment of each and Clancy as a whole.

Clancy directors engaged in the services of Gerry Duffy, Motivational Speaker and ultra-distance competitor to address and facilitate discussions at the CMM event in Carton House 2016.

Gerry Duffy Background.

Gerry Duffy Carton House Clancy Management Meeting 2016

His sporting CV is filled with accomplishments such as running 32 marathons in 32 days as well as winning the 2011 UK DECA Enduroman Iron distance challenge, an event dubbed

‘ The Toughest ten day Endurance Challenge in the World’.

Back in 1995 Gerry dropped over 4 stone in weight as he recognised he had a significant weight problem. This resulted in him taking up running at the age of 27. His sporting CV is now filled with accomplishments that many deem impossible. Gerry Duffy firmly believes that human beings can do far more than we give ourselves credit for and is keen on leading by example.

Gerry’s first book, WHO DARES, RUNS went into the Top 4 list of bestselling books in Ireland within 6 weeks of its release in 2011 and was nominated for the WILLIAM HILL Sports BOOK of the year.

Gerry’s second book TICK TOCK TEN provides readers with a truly unique insight into what it takes to complete one of the hardest sporting endurance challenges in the world- A DECA Iron Distance triathlon.

Over ten days, competitors were required to swim 24 miles, cycle 1,160 miles and run 262 miles. Tick Tock Ten was shortlisted for Irish Sports Book of the Year 2013

Awards

1. Three Ironman Distance Triathlons (2.4 Mile Swim, 112 Mile Cycle, 26.2 mile run)

2. One DOUBLE Iron Distance Triathlon (4.8 mile swim, 224 mile cycle, 52.4 mile run)

Topics

Gerry Duffy is an accomplished motivational keynote speaker and goals setting coach. Since completing his first sporting challenge “32 Marathons in 32 Days” Gerry Duffy has been speaking at events to address the workforces and clients of companies such as Facebook, Google, Bank of America, Standard Life and Coca Cola.

His inspirational story provides a personal insight into how he achieves challenges that people say cannot be done.

Here the next seeds in the Clancy human touch growth chain were sown, as Gerry, in straight no nonsense dialogue, not alone highlighted but gave examples of proven results on what small changes can make to each individual on a personal level, leading to greater job satisfaction and benefit to Clancy overall.

Similar to Liam Sheedy, goal setting was highlighted and indeed Gerry Duffy lay down a marker that if anyone had a gaol in the short term write it down, seal it in an envelope and he would send it back to that person by post. This was his commitment to the process and in doing so he was handing back responsibility to that individual to complete his/her goal.

‘’Gerry joined us at our Annual Management Meeting at Carton House. His presentation was inspirational, interactive and practical for both Clancy as a company and individuals. Gerry has inspired lots in our company both in work and in our personal life.

The feedback from our team was exceptional and we as a company have gained a huge amount of value from it’’.

John O’ Shaughnessy MD

In 2015 David O Sullivan won the Clancy Site manager of the year award; where he also went on to win two national awards, which were significant for the company and David himself, as it shows that we are best in class when it comes to project management.

This years winner was Aidan Maher for his outstanding project management on Cork University Hospital Paediatrics Unit.

L to R: Kevin Kelly, John O’ Shaughnessy, Aidan Maher, Charles Mitchel, Tom Parlon

Although this is a prestigious award for the winning site manager Clancy take the view that this award is not about winning it is about Partnership and solidarity within the company with the real benefit being that all the staff at Clancy’s get the chance to see the dedicated, hard work that Clancy site managers & their team put into each and every project to get it over the line successfully.

Each year the bar is set higher and higher by the applicants which ultimately benefits Clancy as a company but most importantly benefits our clients.
