Despite high loads, JAL said it couldn’t make money on the leisure routes, and the Saipan industry has slumped since the Oct 05 pullout. British agents win court victory THE Association of British TravelAgents (ABTA) claims a win inLondon’s High Court will save theindustry millions of pounds annually. ABTA challenged guidelinesissued in 2005 by the UK CivilAviation Authority (CAA) whichextended the definition of “all-in-

one” package holidays. In the UK licensing arrangementsmean tour operators combining landand air must hold CAA insurance, and the broadened definitionthreatened to see agents organisingtravel being caught up in theoperator licensing system. The court quashed the guidelines, saying they didn’t properly define“inclusive pricing”. ABTA said the ruling would allowagents to confidently sellcustomised holidays without payinginto the CAA scheme, andestimated the saving of £17m inbonding premiums.

Angela’s entry is below and is titled “The Cat in the Hat”; My brush with fame happened in May 2004 whilst in LA with my bestfriend Christina; we were staying at the exclusive Mondrian Hotel whichgave us VIP entry into the hottest bar in Tinseltown “The Sky Bar”. It was our last night in LA so we went to the bar for our “Farewell toHollywood Drinks”; We found a comfy lounge and enjoyed our signaturedrink “The Apple Martini”. Sharing the lounge with us was this good looking guy with theseoversized headphones, he was listening to his CD walkman in a bar withreally funky music, my friend and I thought - what a LOSER... He later leaned over, removed the headphones and spoke to us in anEnglish accent “Are you ladies enjoying your night” my friend answeredwith “Well of course, how could we not this bar is fabulous,” he thenasked where we were from and we said “Sydney, Australia”. He said Aussie Girls are always a pleasure to hang out with, and after afew more minutes chatting introduced himself as Jay & his friend as Mark. Christina looked at me and said “I’m sure he’s Jay Kay from Jamiroquai”however we were both unsure as he wasn’t wearing his trademark hat. I turned to him and said are you Jay Kay and he laughed and said yes,he went on to mention that in LA he’s just another face in the crowd andnobody ever notices or knows of him. He later let us listen to his new music tracks on those oversizedheadphones - the music was just recorded in a nearby studio during his 3week stay in LA - it was his latest album Dynamite. The next morning while we checked out there he appeared with hisfriend Mark, they were on their way to the pool - he approached us andsaid have a safe trip & gave us a parting gift, his very own Von Dutch hat. Mark was holding a sleeve full of photos he let us flip through them -they were Jay Kay’s personal snap shots - Mark gave us a photo of JayKay sitting on a chair whilst song writing. We fought over the hat so wetossed a coin - Christina won however I kept the photo!!! It was a wonderful experience and Jay Kay was a real gentleman...
