The Business Administration and Technology Level 4 programme does just that. It is a sought after qualification that qualifies students for a wide range of administration roles.

Over the course of study, students will gain insight into every facet of the administration world.

Our team of knowledgeable tutors provide students with a range of technical and administrative skills, which will have them ready to tackle performance and productivity levels in any organisation.

Learning about the importance of team dynamics and complying with internal and external business policies and legislation, are among the key skills that students will gain on this course.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND WORKLOADSuggested study path combinationsPart time studyThe number of credits selected per intake should depend on work, family and other commitments. As a guideline, one credit equates to approximately 10 hours study within an intake period. The recommended maximum number of credits per intake compared to working hours are:

• 37+ hours per week = max of 25 credits per intake

• 20-37 hours per week = max of 40 credits per intake

• Fewer than 20 hours per week = max of 60 credits per intake (full time study)

Students must complete the papers in the order they are listed on the fact sheet. The following part time study paths are guides only. Students may do fewer or more papers, time permitting.

Full time studyFull time study is completing all papers (60 credits) in one intake. Full time acceptance into the programme is at Programme Manager’s discretion. Students can extend their studies beyond this course, and move into the NZ Diploma in Business Level 6 or Bachelor of Applied Management.

On completion of this course, students will be well-equipped to move into management and leadership roles at an operational level.

The NZ Diploma in Business (Level 6) is well-suited to those who are wanting to move up the professional ladder and develop higher level management skills. This Level 6 programme builds on the business skills obtained in the Level 5 programme, and provides a great pathway to a business degree.

The programme consists of five core compulsory papers, and three elective papers from the Leadership and Management strand. The structure of our programme allows students to specialise and gain the technical knowledge and people skills relevant to their area of interest.

Upon completion of the course, students will have gained the ability to apply core technical knowledge, people, cognitive, affective, and business environment skills within a strategic context.

Graduates of the New Zealand Diploma in Business Level 5 or the NZIM Diploma in Management Level 5 are encouraged to apply, as are those who wish to step up into a higher level management and leadership position and need a qualification to do so.

As the world becomes more technologically advanced at an ever increasing pace, there comes with it a requirement to grow the number of people employed in the information technology domain and to have them trained in a wide range of fields and to an increasingly high level.

STAFFPROFILES

Ian Hooker (MA)

Ian has vast experience in commerce, management, marketing, and tertiary education. He also has a particular interest in international business having lived in China for five years, working as an Associate Professor in International Business and Economics at Nanchang University. He has taught at Tai Poutini Polytechnic since 2007.

Kate Campbell (MSc)

Kate specialises in human resources management and applied psychology. She has previously worked in sales and human resources management and teaches on the NZ Diploma in Business.

Bob Gilmore

Bob is a tutor on the ICT computing programme. He started at the polytechnic as a casual computing tutor for ACE classes and more recently as an ICT and computing tutor on a range of programmes from Level 2 to Level 6. Bob has in-depth knowledge of this field having worked at the West Coast District Health Board as a PC Support, web developer and a server administrator for ten years. He finds teaching at the polytechnic a rewarding experience. “I feel like I’m making a difference to students’ lives.”

Annabell Dey

Annabell is a tutor on the Business Administration and Computing Programmes at Tai Poutini Polytechnic. Annabell has had many years of experience in business and computing. She has recent industry experience in the business administration and computing areas. She will bring and implement the latest industry requirements into the programmes that she teaches on.

Paula Williams

Paula is a powerhouse of energy and passion for Business Administration programmes. She brings significant experience and expertise in text processing, administration and communication. Paula has taught at Tai Poutini Polytechnic since 2005.

Tom Flannagan

(BCIT)Tom tutors on the CISCO and ICT programmes. Tom has a wide range of knowledge and experience; he has previously worked as a telecommunications technician and Desktop Support Officer.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:• 10 credits NCEA Level 1 Literacy

and 10 Credits Level 1 Numeracy or evidence of equivalent study/work experience

• Students will be interviewed prior to enrolling on this programme. This enables staff to counsel students on intended workload and familiarise them with the programme content and facilities

• If the number of applicants is greater than the number of places on the programme, then applicants who meet the entry requirements are accepted in the order of submission

• Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet General or Academic IELTS 5 with no band score lower than 5 or NZQA approved equivalent.

Special Notes:• Special Entry may be granted where

evidence exists that the applicant can successfully complete the programme.

Applicants are recommended to hold one of the following qualifications, or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience:• NCEA Level 2 or 3• New Zealand Certificate in Computing

(Intermediate User) (Level 3)• New Zealand Certificate in Computing

(Advanced User) (Level 4)• New Zealand Certificate in

Information Technology Essentials (Level 4)

We do not set a closing date for applications. The Polytechnic reserves the right to not accept late applications, i.e., after the programme has started.

You will be offered a place subject to meeting the entry and selection requirements and the availability of places on the programme.

The Polytechnic reserves the right to cancel, prior to commencement, any programme which does not attract a minimum number of students.
