Our week began on Tuesday where all the teachers at- tended a combined professional learning day at the Miramare function centre along with teachers from 13 other schools in our local area that form the Northern Beaches Learning Alliance (NBLA). Our speakers were Professor Stephen Dinham from Melbourne University, and Professor Jenny Gore from Newcastle University, who delivered in- spiring research and data on the difference teachers make to student learning. We all really enjoyed the day together and it was great to network with other teachers in our local area. ANZAC Day Service Yesterday our Year 4 SRC repre- sentatives Sarah Hills, Campbell Freeman, Maru Jedeloo-Conroy, Sam Blank, Jonah Goh and Taylor Davies led the school in a com- memorative service for ANZAC Day. We laid wreaths at the foot of the flag and listened to the Ode and a rendition of the Last Post. It was a beautiful service. The Year 4 students did an amazing job filling in for our school leaders as they were at an excursion. It was great to see our leadership program ex- tends to all grades within the school. Thank you Mrs Birrell and Mrs Poole for you preparation and organisation of the service. Special mention to Katie Gillings from year 6 who was asked to play the Last Post at the Collaroy War Veterans for ANZAC Day. A great honour for Katie which was shown on national television. This program is run by external professional providers and compulsory for all students. All parents of year 5 and 6 students should use the program as a discussion start-er. Interrelate is an excellent program. If you have any concerns please make an appointment with your child’s teacher. Financial Training for Office This term will be a very busy one for Mrs Davison and Mrs Nealon in our office. They will be attending 15 days of specialist financial training at Ryde. We are currently employing additional staff for the office but please be aware that new and temporary staff may not be as famil-iar with your family circumstances and arrangements. Please be patient and understand that emails and enquir-ies may not be able to be answered immediately. Mrs Poole our librarian has also been engaged in addi-tional training in a new library system. I really appreciate the extra hours and commitment each of these staff members are doing in preparation for the implementation of the LMBR system into all Department of Education schools this year. Congratulations Jade and Ruby Nelson and Georgia Fullarton During the holidays Jade and Ruby Nelson decided to cut off their ponytails in support of the charity “Kids with Alopecia.” It is a great cause and their individual efforts are greatly appreciated. The girls will talk a little about their effort at Friday morning assembly. Georgie Fullarton also help raise fund for Alzheimer’s research by donating her time to perform in an advertise-ment for the charity. It is great to see Manly Vale Public School involved in fundraising for great causes. P & C Meeting - Tuesday 10 May Just a reminder that we have moved the P&C meeting to Tuesday at 7.30pm. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Volunteer Reading Program

Do you have half an hour of spare time each week? Would you like to know how to best help children to read? Manly Vale Public School is implementing a reading program (called MultiLit) to assist individual students in years 2-5 with their reading progress, as part of a whole school program. We are looking for parents, grandparents, neigh-bours or carers who would like to receive specific training in how to assist children with reading. This training will then be put into practice by the volun-teers assisting targeted students with an individual-ised program that will be delivered within school hours. The program is very prescriptive and will be given to you. Please note that your child does not have to be in these grades in order for you to volunteer. We will be holding a brief information meeting where you can find out further details and ask questions. If you are interested please email your best contact details to [email protected] with "ATTN: MultiLit" in the subject, or alternatively phone 9907 9672 and leave your details with the ladies at the office.
