Thank you for your support whilst Mrs Lee has been away. Due to the cyclone she was caught in Fiji for an extra week but is safe and will be back at school on Monday. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Princi- pal and feel grateful to be at such a wonderful school with outstanding teachers, bright, happy students and a supportive community. Hot Weather We are experiencing unexpectedly hot and humid weather conditions for the month of February. Please apply sunscreen to your child before they leave home and ensure they have several icy water drinks and their hats. We are minimising running activities by asking students to play quiet games in shade areas as well as reminding them to reapply sunscreen and stay hydrated. The teachers have air conditioning and fans on in the classrooms where possible. At home please remind your child of sun safe practices too. Ethics We are extremely fortunate to be able to offer ethics classes at Manly Vale. I would like to acknowledge the teachers for their effort as well as several hours preparing and facilitating ethics classes. The Manly Vale Public School ethics teachers are trained volun- teers who follow an approved curriculum designed to encourage students to learn to think for themselves and consider other people’s points of view. Children in younger years examine topics such as being left out, sharing and bullying to help them consider the feelings and interests of others. Students in older years look at a wide range of ethical topics, including whether animals have rights, drugs in sport, moral responsibility and vanity. By discussing ethical mat- ters as a group, students learn to be sincere, reason- able and respectful when dealing with differences of opinion and disagreements. Class Parents Mrs Lee will be meeting with the Class Parent Coor- dinators next week and will be finalising class con- tact lists. If you were not able to attend your child’s Stage Information Night you should have received a slip asking for your details for the contact list. These details will not be published or used in public forums or for private business use. They are strictly for class event information. If you did not receive a slip, there will be some at the front office. Fundraising The school is often bombarded with many fundrais- ing suggestions, opportunities and causes to sup- port. The SRC and Stage 3 teachers vote on the fundraising the school will take part in. Sometimes there are other charities and causes we are able to support when they come up incidentally. Congratulations to Talia and Isla Stedman and Jon- athon and Emily Levingston for holding a cake and lemonade stall at David Thomas Oval to raise mon- ey to assist Arranounbai School. The school was most appreciative, and Manly Vale school communi- ty applauds your willingness to assist those less for- tunate. It is excellent to see our students using their initiative to help others. School Council The School Council met on Monday night and was provided with an informative presentation from the PRG team and our School’s Education Director Ja- son Baldwin. Elaine McManus and Jordana Fraser were introduced as new staff representatives. We farewelled and thanked Pat Dylan and Melinda Ward for their many years of service and support on the School Council. Student Representative Council Every year each class votes for two students to rep-resent their class and form the Student Representa-tive Council. This is an important job for our stu-dents as they form a decision making group that makes suggestions, engages in voting and brings above positive change in our school. The ‘Buddy Bench’ is an excellent example of democratic action taking place through a ‘carried’ SRC suggestion. Congratulations to the following students who will receive their badges Friday 4 March:

School Fees Thank you to the office staff for all the work they’ve done compiling the school fees. These were handed out Wednesday afternoon and include most sched-uled events for the year. If you have financial diffi-culties please see Mrs Lee to discuss these and a payment plan can be set up.
