  • Main categories of business communication Contd. . All the communication that occurs in conducting work within a business is internal operational communication. For example to manufacture products, provide a service, or sell goods. . The work related communicating that a business does with people and groups out side the business is external operational communication .For example- writing messages and advertising.

    . Personal communication means non business related exchanges of information and feelings among people.

  • Communication networks in the business organization

    Two types of networks are discussed here-One is the formal networkAnother is informal network

  • The formal network is consists of the official and more stable lines of communicationThe informal is consisting largely of personal communication, is highly complex and ever changing.

  • Contexts for CommunicationAchievement of particular goalsContextsBusiness communication always takes place within certain contexts-Business-economic climate - example if the countrys economy or a particular industry is flourishing a communicators message and the recipient's response may well be different than they would be in an economic slum.Customs in the surrounding culture Language, values- Language and values are trickle down into daily acts of communication.

Consider how the terrorist attacks of 9/11 brought to the fore language about religion, war, and patriotism. Relationship of the communicator - The relationship of the communications also forms an important context for communication. All future messages between peoples will need to take the relationship into account.

    Particular Contexts:Organizational- we have discussed the type and cultures of the organization.Professional how can we speak differently and tend to focus on different things.Personal success and failures, financial ups and down, physical environment all can affect a particular communication.

  • The Process of CommunicationThe process of initiating a communication act have six basic stages 1. Sensing a need for communicationBelieving that some form of communication will help to achieve the desired state. 2. Defining the situationCreate successful message or plan a communication event through a well informed sense of the situation. 3. Considering possible communication strategiesThink about and research the potential audience , goals, relationship with audience and contexts

  • The Process of Communication Contd. 4. Selecting a course of actionConsider the potential costs and benefits of different options and select the optimum one.

    5. Composing the MessagePlan strategy for discussing solution with audience. Present message orally or write out the whole message.

    6. Sending the MessageDeliver the message to the recipient in a particular channel (phone call & email) that ensures the message delivery.
