Past Burnsville Traveling Baseball Survey Highlights
BTB 2019 Parent Meeting 6
Myth #1: “Tryouts are biased because certain dads only coach so their kidcan be on that team. No coaches should be announced until after tryouts.” Fact: Coaches are NOT chosen until after tryouts are over. A player willnot be rewarded or punished just because their parent has volunteered tocoach. Myth #2: “It shouldn’t just be AAA coaches who get to evaluate during thetryout process.” Fact: It’s not. BTB makes a concerted effort to choose potential coachesfrom all levels to take part in the evaluation process. Sometimes that’s notpossible or doesn’t end up being the case once teams are formed. Myth #3: “Allowing coaches to pick players because of their parents or whothey want as assistant coaches is ridiculous.” Fact: We agree, and that is why it’s not allowed.
Past Burnsville Traveling Baseball Survey Highlights (continued)
BTB 2019 Parent Meeting 7
Myth #4: “A third party needs to be involved with tryouts so the evaluationsare done in an objective way.” Fact: They are. At each age level, BTB uses a combination of threepotential coach evaluators and two independent evaluators. While nosystem is perfect, we feel strongly that this is the best “formula” to get themost accurate teams with the most kids at the proper level. Myth #5: “This league is too expensive.” Fact: BTB’s fees rank second-lowest in the entire metro area, andscholarships are available that would allow those with a demonstrated needto play for just $100. Myth #6: “I see no reason why parents should have to volunteer their timegiven how much it costs to play. BTB expects too much from parents.” Fact: BTB is a community-based program run entirely by parentvolunteers. Without them, there is no BTB for your child. If we didn’t hosttournaments in town, the league fees would be substantially higher.

Inclement Weather• In case of inclement weather, the coach will determine if there will be a

In all cases, unless you receive a communication from your team’s coach or manager, you should appear at the site of the game or practice as scheduled. Weatherconditions can vary widely even over short distances, so our policy is tomake the decision at the field site. Games and practices will be suspendedwhen lightning is visible. Important Notes for Parents and Players Regarding Tryouts
2019 BTB TRYOUT INFO
BTB 2019 Parent Meeting 26
Important Notes for Parents and Players Regarding Tryouts (continued) •Please keep things in perspective, and don’t lose sight of the big picture. •The purpose of tryouts is to place kids at the competitive level best suited forthem this year. This will not affect a player’s “baseball status” in Burnsville forlife! Rosters change every year, and the varsity coaches don’t care what levelyour son played at in youth baseball. •Kids grow and develop at different speeds. It is impossible to predict now whomight be the top players down the road or even next year. •It’s often a much better situation to be a top player on a lower team than abottom player on a higher team, as there are usually more opportunities to playa key role and better odds of individual success. •Do not allow your potential disappointment over what level your child ends upat to ruin his season. Everyone that makes a team gets the opportunity to playbaseball with their friends!
BTB 2019 Parent Meeting 27
• Players are divided into groups of approximately 7-10 players. Potential coaches as well asindependent evaluators from outside the program or from a different age level will evaluatethe players. • Players are evaluated and graded in three areas: hitting, fielding and throwing. • The pitching/catching evaluation is not required but is strongly recommended. Thepitching/catching evaluation is used to help potential coaches determine who can pitch/catchbut may also separate players that are close in their evaluations. • A 2nd Look will be held to help validate the grading. Like the pitching/catching portion, itis also optional but strongly recommended. After this final look, player selections arecompleted. • The age-level directors and potential coaches will structure the 2nd Look for their agegroup. The potential coaches will then meet with board members to determine teams. ***The Age-Level Director is responsible for running the tryout. ***

BTB 2019 Parent Meeting 41
Thank you all for participating in the Burnsville TravelingBaseball program for the 2019 season.
Have a great year, and please remember:
Your child’s success or lack thereof in sports does not
indicate what kind of parent you are.But having an athlete that is coachable, respectful, a greatteammate, hard-working and resilient IS a direct reflection
of your parenting.
