Eddie Gossage, President of Texas Motor Speedway, will serve as Keynote Speaker at the Chamber’s Summer Quarterly Meeting on Thursday, June 16th. The luncheon begins at 11:30 AM at Nazarene Christian Academy on Old Highway 1187 on the northern edge of Burleson.

“This is the first time Eddie Gossage has addressed chamber members and community leaders in Burleson,” says Chamber President Sherri Sechrist. “Attendees will hear Gossage’s inside story about the success of one of the nation’s most popular motorsport destinations and North Texas’s largest tourism draw. This promises to be a great meeting for the Chamber.

According to Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Executive Chairman and NASCAR Hall of Famer Bruton Smith, “The Great American Speedway!” is guided by “America’s Greatest Racing Promoter.” Gossage, who always has considered Smith his mentor, has benefitted from that relationship to develop into a world-famous, innovative speedway executive in motorsports today. He pioneered the construction and debut of Texas Motor Speedway in the 1990s and steadily built the venue into one of the premier speedways in the world.

Texas Motor Speedway annually hosts the largest single-day sporting events in the Lone Star State with two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, in addition to two NASCAR XFINITY SERIES and Camping World Truck Series races and a Verizon IndyCar Series event.

Under Gossage’s leadership through the years, Texas Motor Speedway has hosted the largest single-day crowd in Texas sports history, promoted some of the country’s largest music festivals, staged the first-ever nighttime Indy-car race, annually attracted some of the largest crowds of the season for all the major series that compete at the speedway, and installed the world’s largest HD LED video board known as “Big Hoss TV”.

In 2015, Texas Motor Speedway was honored as the Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Track of the Year. A Nashville native, Gossage has been involved in motorsports since 1980 and his diverse experience in all major forms of auto racing has molded

him into one of the most influential and well-known executives in professional sports. He was handpicked by Bruton Smith in 1995 to be the guiding force for Smith’s new state-of-the-art facility in Fort Worth that would debut in 1997. Today, Texas Motor Speedway is considered one of the premier motorsports venues in the world and continues to be one of the most innovative and creative under Gossage’s legendary guidance.

Gossage remains heavily involved in Speedway Children’s Charities – serving on the board of directors – as well as within the community with positions on the boards for the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Independent School District Foundation and the Board of Professional Advisors for the College of Mass Communications at Middle Tennessee State.

This year, the Chamber marks its 50th Anniversary. To celebrate our 50 Years of Excellence, the Chamber is hosting a Golden Gala on September 17th in the new Oaks Event Center located at Southern Oaks Golf Club from 6:30 to 11:00 pm. The evening will include dinner and cocktails, a short program, live music and dancing. The evening attire is cocktail with black tie optional.

Seating for the Golden Gala is limited to 260. Tickets are $100 per person and reserved tables are available through a Gold or Silver Sponsorship.

As part of the celebration, the Gala Committee is recreating the Chamber history for publication in our event program and to be displayed during the Gala. If you have any memories and significant stories you would like to share about the Chamber’s 50 years in our community, please contact the Chamber. In particular, photos that document the Chamber’s early years of meeting, events, activities and members are appreciated, especially if you can identify the individuals in the photos.

Seventy-five members of the Burleson Lions Club established the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce in 1965 as they gathered to discuss the industrial and economic development of their rapidly growing city. Following the drafting of the organization charter and by-laws by County Judge Herschel C. Winn, the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce was officially founded in April, 1966, The first Board consisted of Judge Winn, President; George E, Bransom Jr., Vice President; Jack Harr, J.A. Schumacher; W.L.W. Scott, Les Todd, Ray Don Williams and W.N. Wood. Since then, the men and women who have served in leadership role with the Chamber reads like a “Who’s Who” of Burleson.

The Chamber is an association made up of our members. Our 50th Anniversary celebration is an acknowledgement of the success and support of our members, volunteers and the community. Congratulations to our members for 50 years of success as the foundation of the Burleson Chamber; we look forward to seeing you at our Golden Gala Celebration on Saturday, September 17th.
