Bullying
What can we as teachers do?
What programs are available to schools to teach students about
bullying and hate and promoting anti-bullying and anti-hate?
According to the Michigan State Board of Education as of September 12, 2006, it is required that all school officials in Michigan annually disseminate the model anti-bullying policy to all school staff, students, and parents.
I interviewed the school councelor at Renaissance High School and I found out the following...
- They do not annually dissemate the policy to the teachers, students, and parents. She personally had never even heard of it.
- There is no program available to students. The only thing available is counseling and some phamplets on bullying if asked for.

Renaissance High School Students
From looking at the graphs I think the students and the school have two different opinions on what should be done about bullying and hate.
- They have a different idea of what bullying is compared to what the school classifies as bullying.
- The majority of students do not see bullying as a problem at their school, nor do they think they are bullied or bully others. They do however, think that it is important to provide a program concerning these issues and that they would participate.
There are many programs and information available for schools. Some include…http://www.coolassemblies.com/assemblies.htm - this webpage shows assemblies by Cary Trivanovich. He takes a creative outlook on the issue.
