The PsalmThe PsalmThe PsalmThe Psalm

The psalm will be read as prompted by the Lector.

Psalm 118Psalm 118Psalm 118Psalm 11814The LORD is my strength and my might; *

he has become my salvation.

15There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous: *‘The right hand of the LORD does valiantly;

16the right hand of the LORD is exalted; *the right hand of the LORD does valiantly.’

17I shall not die, but I shall live, *and recount the deeds of the LORD.

18The LORD has punished me severely, *

but he did not give me over to death.19Open to me the gates of righteousness, *

that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.

20This is the gate of the LORD; *the righteous shall enter through it.

21I thank you that you have answered me *and have become my salvation.

22The stone that the builders rejected *has become the chief cornerstone.

23This is the LORD’s doing; *it is marvellous in our eyes.

24This is the day that the LORD has made; *let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25Save us, we beseech you, O LORD! *O LORD , we beseech you, give us success!

26Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the L ORD. *We bless you from the house of the LORD.

27The LORD is God, and he has given us light. *Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.

28You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; * you are my God, I will extol you.

29O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, *for his steadfast love endures for ever.

The Thanksgiving over the WaterThe Thanksgiving over the WaterThe Thanksgiving over the WaterThe Thanksgiving over the Water

The Celebrant blesses the water, first saying

Celebrant  The Lord be with you.People And also with you.

Celebrant  Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.People It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Celebrant

We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water.Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation.Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage

in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesusreceived the baptism of John and was anointed by the HolySpirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his deathand resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.

We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we areburied with Christ in his death. By it we share in hisresurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into hisfellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them inthe Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

At the following words, the Celebrant touches the water

Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of yourHoly Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin andborn again may continue for ever in the risen life of JesusChrist our Savior.

To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor andglory, now and for ever.  Amen.

The BaptismThe BaptismThe BaptismThe Baptism

The candidate is presented by name to the Celebrant who then pours water upon the candidate, saying

Isaac, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son,and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

The PeaceThe PeaceThe PeaceThe PeaceCelebrant  May the peace of the Lord be always with you.People And also with you.

13

When this action has been completed for the candidate, the Priest, at a place in

full sight of the congregation, prays over him, saying

Let us pray.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the HolySpirit you have bestowed upon these your servants theforgiveness of sin, and have raised them to the new life of grace. Sustain them, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give them an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and topersevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joyand wonder in all your works.  Amen.

The priest then charges the parents. You must remember, that it is your responsibility to see that this child istaught, as soon as he is able to learn, what a solemn vow, promise, andprofession he has made by you. It is your duty to see that he is raised in thecommunity of the Church; that from a young age he is taught the scriptures, and learns the Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and the Ten Commandments; andthat this Child may be virtuously brought up to lead a godly and a Christianlife; remembering always that Baptism represents our commitment to followthe example of our Saviour Christ, and to grow into his likeness; that, as hedied, and rose again for us, so should we, who are baptized, die from sin, andrise again to righteousness; dying to self and living for the Lord.

Upon completion of the baptism, the Celebrant says

Let us welcome the newly baptized.

Celebrant and People

We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faithof Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and share withus in his eternal priesthood.
