April 5, 2015 - Easter Sunday The Mind of Christ
Acts 10:34a, 37-43 Peter preaches Christs death and resurrection to the gentiles. Psalm 118 This is the day the Lord has made. Col 3:1-4 Paul teaches the consequences of follow-ing Christ. John 20:1-9 The empty tomb is discovered.
The last lines from to-days Easter Gospel (Mark) tell us that the disciples saw and be-lieved. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead. We can imagine what
took place before their discovery: Jesus rose from death alone in the darkness of the tomb. He re-moved his own burial cloths and folded them. Jesus then took off his head covering, rolled it up and put it in a separate place. From inside the tomb, he moved the heavy stone aside and stepped out into the early-morning darkness. Like the disciples, we are challenged to believe that he rose from the dead. We have had over 2,000 years to understand that the Easter Gospel invites us to step into the tomb and rediscover that Jesus resurrection is a promise to us. We come to know that like him, we, too, shall rise from the dead. -- Dc. Dick Folger Next Weeks Readings Acts 4:32-25 The early Christian community wit-nessed and shared. Psalm 118 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. 1 John 5:1-6 Faith in Christ and love are required of believers. John 20:19-31 Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.
Sept 22-27, 2015 The Holy Father has invited families from around the world to come and explore the critical role that the family plays in
todays society. Participants will also have an op-portunity to attend the Papal Mass on September 27th. The Diocese of St. Catharines has arranged 50 travel packages for this event. Registrations will be accepted on a first come basis. Details are avail-able from the parish office or contact Franca Lanigan at the Catholic Centre 905-684-0154.

OFFICE OF THE BISHOP
March 27, 2015
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
The celebration of Easter is rooted in the Paschal Mystery. This mystery isfound in the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord. It brings joy to allbelievers because it contains the spring of God's life-giving mercy. Jesussuffered, died and rose from the dead in order that we might know God's greatlove, receive forgiveness and experience life eternal. St. Faustina understood thistruth when she wrote about Divine Mercy: "God is love, and mercy is his deed, inlove it begins, in mercy it is revealed." This connection between mercy and thePaschal Mystery can also be seen in the fact that the First Sunday after Easter isDivine Mercy Sunday.
Our Holy Father Pope Francis has often stated that the world needs a moreprofound experience and understanding of God's mercy. To address this reality,he has recently announced a "Jubilee of Mercy" for the Universal Church. It willbegin on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception 2015 and conclude on theFeast of Christ the King 2016. This Holy Year will provide us with a wonderfulopportunity for greater reflection on the mercy of God which presents a mysterythat must be experienced in our daily lives.
As we celebrate the Lord's Resurrection let us take a few moments tocontemplate the profound meaning of the Paschal Mystery which reveals to usGod's love and mercy for the world. "God is love, and mercy is his deed, in loveit begins, in mercy it is revealed." This is a message that the world needs to hear.
May our Risen Lord grant you a grace-filled Easter.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Gerard Bergie, D.D.Bishop of St. Catharines
