    WELCOME TO GRACE COVENANT!

Thank you for joining us today! We are an historic Presbyterian

congregation offering traditional worship and multiple ministriesfor persons of all ages. Please join us following worship for fellowship

in the Social Room. Thank you for turning off your cell phones, pagers, cameras, and other electronic devices for the duration

    of morning worship.

If you believe what you like in the gospels, and reject what you dontlike, it is not the gospel you believe, but yourself.

    ~Aurelius Augustine

Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed torepresent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are goingastray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.

No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,

You are my Son;today I have become your Father.

And he says in another place,You are a priest forever,in order of Mechizedek.

    ~Hebrews 5:1-6

    PRAYER OFCONFESSION

Gracious and merciful God, you sent us a great high priest, who was tempted in every way, yet lived without sin.Forgive us, O God, that though we claim to be disciples of Jesus,we succumb to temptation at every turn.Show us with each new day, our absolute dependenceon the one who is the source of our eternal salvation.Guide us, as we seek to do nothing out of selfish ambitionand vain conceit, but to approach all things with an attitude of service. This we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

A NTHEM The Eyes of All Wait Upon Thee Sir William Henry Harri(1883-1973)

The eyes of all wait upon thee, O Lord:and thou givest them their meat in due season.Thou openest thine hand: and fillest all things living with plenteousness. The Lord is righteous in all his ways: and holy in all his works.

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him:yea all such as call upon him faithfully. He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him:he also will hear their cry and will help them. The Lord preserveth all them that love him.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathizewith our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we areyet without sin. Let us then approach the throne of gracewith confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us

in our time of need. ~Hebrews 4:15-16

MUSIC NOTES: Dietrich Buxtehude was aGerman-Danish organist and a highlyregarded composer of the Baroque period.Buxtehude composed numerous chorale

preludes for the organ. Chorale preludesare four-part settings of one stanza of ahymn; the melody is presented in anelaborately ornamental version, typically inthe highest voice. Today's prelude on aGerman Christmas carol (PresbyterianHymnal, #28) is an example of this verypopular genre of Baroque composers. Sir William Henry Harris served as the organist

at St. George's Chapel, Windsor (UnitedKingdom) and composed numerous choralanthems. Harris was especially noted for hisskills as a master of choristers. His anthemThe Eyes of All Wait Upon Theeis based onPsalm 145 and is suitable for the harvestseason as well as Advent. J. S. Bach craftedthe popular Lutheran chorale Savior of theNations, Come (Presbyterian Hymnal #14)

into five different organ chorale preludes.Today's postlude is the boldest setting ofBachs five preludes.
