Oom Jannie se naam is Goggabie,

Goggabie, Goggabie, oom Jannie se naam is Goggabie.

Oom Jannie se naam is Goggabie, Gog-gabie, Goggabie,

oom Jannie se naam is Goggabie. Mooi is

Oom Jannie se naam is Goggabie, Goggabie, Gog-gabie,oom Jannie se naam is Goggabie.

Oom Jannie se naam is Goggabie, Goggabie, Gog-gabie,oom Jannie se naam is Goggabie. Mooi is sy, nie lelik nie.

Sien… onsin!Hulle moet ten minste hul hare ook laat doen!Ongelukkig sal dit nie met haar gebeur nie;

lyk of sy die broek in Zimbabwe dra!

The Mmathakana Family Gar-dening project headed by re-tired veteran school principal Mr George Ramodike, has start-ed supplying locals with fresh healthy vegetables. The vegetable garden is in the heart of Thabina in Moime village, fi ve kilometres from the centre of Lenyenye.

The vegetable garden comprises of many diff erent kinds of veg-gies: Tomatoes, spinach, cabbage, onion and beetroot. Ramodike is planning also to plant green papers, carrots and green beans from next year.

“The Garden has a market through Mr Rammalo from the Greater Tzaneen Municipality who has communicated with Spar, Food Lovers Market and Shoprite at Maake for the garden

to supply them, but our focus is to supply locals fi rst,” Ramodike said.

Ramodike advises people on starting their own garden. “A lot of people start gardens and give up when the going gets tough. I get a lot of calls in the Spring from people who want to start gardens and can’t wait to get started,” Ra-modike said.

“I fi rmly believe that growing your own vegetables is one way to radically improve your diet. It’s a way to ensure not only food security but also food safety, pro-vided you adhere to organic prin-ciples.”

Good news for the residents in the upper class suburb of Panorama in Modjadjiskloof came on Wednesday with the return of running water in their taps. They had been left without water for nine days, because of pipe bursts due to an obsolete network and lack of maintenance.

A resident explained that water reticulation is still sup-plied through asbestos pipes in a system designed for much less residents and businesses than current.

When a burst occurs, these pipes cannot be replaced as they are out of stock. A conversion fi tt ing is used to connect it with new PVC pipes, but it must be ordered as the GLM did not keep them in stock for emergency purposes.

Aft er years of continued interruptions in water supply,

the GLM has now decided to order suffi cient conversion fi tt ings to fi x future failings.

The water crisis in Panorama wasn’t a pleasant one, said another resident, Mr Dave Prott er of Crisis Control. He said water tankers were sent to Modjadjiskloof by Lepelle Northern Water in Politsi.

He had to take to the streets with his megaphone, call-ing residents to fi ll containers for domestic use until the pipelines are repaired.

“We had the water system working for a few hours on Monday, but the water was dirty and unsuitable for con-sumption. Then we had another burst, for which a new order for equipment had to be placed. There is no contin-uation in the planning.”

Panorama has water again (at last)

Widespread theft of transformers in the rural areas of Tzaneen and Letsitele are leaving farmers in fear of losing millions of rands, while farmers say progress in po-lice investigations are answered with a shrug.

Farmers att ending an AgriLetaba meeting this week in Tza-neen were told that more than sixty transformers were stolen over the past three months. In Letsitele 35 transformers dis-appeared and had to be replaced. Farmers fear that service providers (the GTM) might not have suffi cient stock to con-tinue with replacements before next year.

Mr Pierre Smit of Letsitele said in his security report that all cases were reported to the police immediately, but no feedback on results has been given. The loss of a transformer on a farm causes a delay in vital irrigation programmes, because pumps and watering systems come to a halt. According to Mr Zander Ernst, vice-chairman of AgriLetaba, this can lead to poor fruit set among citrus and avo farmers. Losses in crop production leading to damages of thousands of rands if a stolen transform-er is not replaced in less than a week, is also worrying farmers.

Mr Pieter Vorster, chairman of AgriLetaba, said farmers sug-gested to the GTM to equip transformers with warning devices at a cost of about R4 000 each. Farmers were prepared to con-tribute to such cost, but they were told it was not necessary as

the transformers were covered by insurance. However, the number of transformer theft s men-

tioned at the meeting are questioned by the GTM’s chief electrical engineer, Mr Pierre van den Heever. He said in the fi ve months since July only 26 stolen transformers were replaced. This is not seen as a cri-sis, as there are literally thousands of transformers in the GTM’s area.

The delay in follow-up investigations by the police was described as “due to a lack of communication” by Mr Willem van Jaarsveld, CEO of AgriLimpopo. He said the strategy for rural safety introduced by the SAPS earlier this year was communicated to every police station in the province. “We are going to chal-lenge the police stations one by one to see how this strategy is implemented and executed.”

The offi cer commanding of the SAPS’ Tzaneen clus-ter, Brig Thomas Shingange, said the rural safety strategy is running smoothly. He described it as rath-er a working solution than a report trumpeted out on public meetings. He added that transformer and

cable theft are high on the list of investigations and information will be given through to all the roleplayers in the rural safety strategy plan.

Having made a promise we are sup-posed to keep it, but oft en we fail to do so and then suff er the consequences. Of-ten we regret that we failed to keep this promise and at a later stage try to make up for it. Oft en it is too late, so how do we fi x something that seems unfi xable?

We pray and ask God to help us. It is never too late to make amends as long as we are sincere about it. Saying that we are sorry is oft en not enough as some feel that this word carries litt le weight. We need to show how sorry we are by doing things that are an indication of how we feel.

How oft en do we make promises to God that we fail to keep? As parents we make promises on behalf of our children when we have them baptised. Do we follow up on these promises or do we for-get what we promised? Oft en we allow our children to do as they please and then blame someone else, perhaps, even the church.

When time comes to confi rm the child, the child is supposed to have the fundamental knowledge of their religious belief. Oft en they fail hopelessly as the basics should have been taught at home. As they progress some become more confi dent in their faith, others leave the church as they feel they have done all that is necessary. Oft en a confi r-mation certifi cate is seen as a “church leaving certifi cate.”

If we come to marriage and are married by the church, we make promises before God which we oft en fail to keep and oft en this leads to divorce as we have broken these promises.

So how do we fi x all this? As I see it, it is all about faith. Faith in our parents, faith in our partners but most important faith in God. We need to be honest when we make decisions that aff ect all around us. We need to be honest to God as to why we made these decisions. We need to constantly pray about all things that eff ect our lives and those of others. People oft en say “love is not enough” although this may be true in many cases are we carrying out God’s wishes? Agape love is an all-consuming love, a love that knows no bounds, a love that God gives us and a love we should endeavour to share with others.

If at a later stage in life we realise that perhaps, our decisions were based on our feelings at the time and that our feelings have now changed and we regret that we did not do enough to fi x our problems. How can we make things right? I feel that it is only by going down on our knees and asking God to assist us that we will get the answers we require. God, who is faithful and just will hear our prayers and we will then know what to do. This all is about faith. Faith in Christ and His promises. How is your faith meas-uring up? Blessings.

Increased vigilance is vital for shoppers As the year draws to a close, shopping malls begin to experience a signifi cant rise in foot traffi c as many South Africans and international tourists rush to complete their Christmas shopping.

These heightened buying trends, aided by annual bonuses traditionally being paid around this time, lead shops to open their stores for longer and increase their stock in-take as a means to capitalise on shoppers’ infl ated budget. However, what should be a joyous occasion could turn rather sour as higher store revenues traditionally tend to att ract criminals.

This is according to Mr Michael Petersen, CEO of Risk Benefi ts Solutions (RBS), one of SA’s largest independent insurance and risk specialists, who says that a spike in crimes ranging from in-store robberies to cash-in-transit heists, among other shop-ping mall-related crimes, usually mark the beginning of the festive season.

“In the build up to Christmas, the num-

ber of shoppers increase and subsequently stores hold more revenue and goods, there-fore att racting robberies.” He adds that most off enders are aware of this trend, and have come up with sophisticated strategies to exploit this information, thereby requir-ing stores to have the right cover to protect themselves fi nancially from potential risks.

“Following a spike in mall robberies last year, we have continued to see this trend in 2015. Over the past six months alone, we have seen numerous incidents across SA.”

He adds that the recently released 2015 crime statistics by the SA Police in Septem-ber revealed that robbery with aggravating circumstances has increased by 9% year-on-year. “Syndicate crimes targeting business-es, especially att ractive high end items such as jewelry, clothing, cell phones and ciga-rett es, are especially on the rise.”

Petersen adds that unfortunately innocent bystanders have also been known to fall victim to robberies in malls and stores, and

should take ownership, as most business-es do not provide such insurance cover for their customers. “Shoppers are not exempt from mall robbery crimes, and should not leave the onus on business-owners to cover their losses should they be aff ected.”

The continued robberies have made safe-ty concerns a major priority, and individual shopping malls around Gauteng and the Western Cape, the largest hit areas, have since put plans in place to protect shoppers as far as possible. These include improved evacuation plans, as well as the replacement of poor quality security cameras that have been a hindrance in police investigations.

“These improvements in shopping mall safety are commendable strides towards bett er and safer shopping experiences, espe-cially during the peak festive season. How-ever, they do not replace the importance of liability cover for shoppers and business alike, so that they have peace of mind to en-joy the festive season,” concludes Petersen.

“Every customer I have helps me with my daughters’ educa-tion,” says Ms Caroline Desler (38) from Tzaneen Garden Ser-vice. Desler is a single mother with two daughters and prides herself that her business enabled her to put Tahuna (14) through Unicorn by herself. Her other daughter, Courtney, is four.

Desler was born in Cape Town and worked in the restaurant business for almost ten years. She concentrated on the fran-chises Spur, Panarott i’s and O’Hagen’s.

Then she had Tahuna, whose name means great chief and warrior in Mao-ri, and that changed her life. She moved to Tzaneen to be closer to her widowed brother, Mr Graham Wood, and bought the garden service business in 2009. Des-ler began with six staff members and

twenty weekly customers. She now has fourteen staff members and 85 custom-ers who need to be ser-viced every week.

Tzaneen Garden Service covers Modjadjiskloof, Politsi, Georges Valley and Tzaneen. Desler says, “most customers are on a weekly basis, others fort-nightly. We also do once-off cleans.”

She was 60 kg overweight when she started the busi-ness, and within a year lost

50 kg. Not only has this line of business made her svelte, it’s made her stronger and she can pick up 25 kg with ease as well as load and unload lawnmowers onto the bakkie. However, she says this business is not for sissies as sometimes she’s fi lthy.

Tzaneen Garden Service works with both electric and petrol lawnmowers. However, she dreams of owning one of the new reel to reel lawnmowers. It uses neither electricity nor petrol and is a modern version of the old hand mower.

She runs a tight ship but sometimes the unexpected happens — like the time her entire team was stung by bees. The swarm of bees att acked her staff at Mac-adamia Retirement Village. The staff ran but not before they were all quite severe-ly stung and had to be taken to the clinic. Another scary event was when the half-ton bakkie got stuck on a steep slope in an avocado orchard.

“My staff is extremely ripped from pushing those lawnmowers 24/7 and amongst eight of us we managed to pick up the bakkie and put it back on safe ground”.

The ANC Limpopo has issued a state-ment to say that they noted with a great concern the re-emergence of vi-olent crimes in the recent past, which are mainly associated with residents being accused of witch-craft and their houses and belongings being set alight by violent mobs.

“In these instances, mainly the elderly are tar-geted, and many house-holds have been dis-placed as a result. This has aff ected many fami-ly members inclusive of children and students.

“Furthermore, residents who are accused

of other crimes such as theft and ritual mur-ders are lynched by communities who should rather report these cases to the law enforce-ment agencies. These cases are reported in many districts in Limpopo and this has be-come a serious concern for the ANC.

“In these cases, houses were set alight, suspects stoned to death, property vandal-ised and goods looted. The ANC does not support the killing of individuals for ritual purposes or any other criminal motives, and would like to call upon all residents to desist

from such activities. “Equally so, the ANC believes that

where communities have suspects in criminal activities, they should provide evidence to the police for investigation, arrest and prosecution. We must allow the law to take its full course and not take the law into our own hands.

“We are also encouraging the police to be more vigilant and act speedily when cases are reported, to honour the confi dence of our people in the justice system of our country,” according to the statement.

Hulle woon in Tzaneen, waar albei by Smit Garrun werk.

plekke mag stem nie, moet jy gaan (her-)regi- streer.

keersgemors daar oogluikend toelaat.By die laerskool se oplaaipunt in Hermanus-

Homeward Bound off Route 71Sixty Seven. That’s a big number, yet it is dwarfed in stature by the breath taking land-scape that surrounds the almost surreal grounds of the Tzaneen Country Lodge, as it lays snuggled up against the banks of the Letaba River. A litt le more than a do-zen kilometres outside the peaceful town of Tzaneen as you head towards neighbouring Gravelott e, you will fi nd your sixty seven.

Sixty seven cosy beds that lay waiting for your weary traveller’s head, on bended knee a peaceful rest to off er. Sixty seven rooms, in-dividually furnished in a humble yet elegant fashion, with all the modern comforts to help ease the pains of a strenuous business day into the far off corners of your mind.

Sightseeing, golf or any number of safari excursions will make you feel at home. Well presented, trained and friendly hotel staff awaits your every beck and call as you lazily enter the mystical realm of the Rain Queen.

They’ve won awards

Known hosts of many a large function, be it corporate or private, Adri Kruger and her dedicated team boast a proverbial trophy case of achievements, to add credentials to the exceptional service rumour that has spread throughout the province.

Among their most notable accolades in-clude a certifi cate of excellence from the international “go-to-guys” in the travel and leisure industry, TripAdvisor and the award-

ing of fi ve Green Hearts from Lovetostay for their eff orts to “protect and conserve the environment by implement-ing Recycling, Green Clean-ing, Water Wise practices, Sustainable Energy acumen, Land rehabilitation and Con-servation.”

Genuine hospitality with stylish hotel rooms and relax-ing pools in perfect harmony with the surrounding coun-tryside speak straight to your soul. Beautifully landscaped gardens with surrounding indigenous forest lands em-brace the relaxed Limpopo culture to fulfi l their promise of a peaceful, tranquil escape.

I hear they’ve expandedThe 150 hectare privately

owned farmland hugging the infrastructure of the Tzaneen Country Lodge has, over the course of fi ft een years, seen tremendous growth with the addition of the Green Earth Spa, the Mangela Animal Farm, the spacious Conferencing facilities and an entire supple-mentary venue dedicated to the most spec-tacular wedding ceremonies this side of the Drakensberg.

Adding to the already popular wedding venue is the new Firefl y Lakeside bar which stands guard over the waterfront from its perch next to the dam. Culture, jubilee and entertainment has always been close to the hearts of the true Limpopo dwellers and for this reason, Tzaneen Country Lodge has ren-ovated and expanded the truly impressive open-air waterfront auditorium which is now able to host bigger festivals such as the annual Gospel Festival.

With the extra rooms in the hotel, they are now able to comfortably house up to 136 guests who will be spoilt for choice at the newly refurbished Rosa la Rouge cocktail bar. The bar also serves pub lunches in addition to the many signature mixes on off er. Possi-bly the most exciting addition to the Tzaneen Country Lodge’s service bouquet, is the Per-sonalized Butler Service exclusively available to executive suite guests and bride’s on their wedding day.

The renowned Earth Spa has also been

upgraded to off er six luxurious treatment rooms, all tended to by four dedicated thera-pists. The Earth Spa now also proudly hous-es the very fi rst Vichy Shower in the region. A Vichy shower includes fi ve to seven shower heads that are placed in a row over a cush-ioned table. During the treatment, a client lies on a cushioned table while water show-ers the body. Spas worldwide feature the shower in some of their most popular hydro-therapy (water) treatments.

Why not get your hair done when you fi n-ish up at the Spa? Head over to the newly launched Hair by Hané salon which operates in conjunction with the spa. Bookings are essential although the salon is open to all members of the public including in-house guests.

A host of possibilities awaits With so much to off er, Tzaneen Country

Lodge stands as the bastion of relaxing, tran-quil excursions deep into the heart of the kingdom which is the Limpopo Bushveld. Immerse yourself in the mythology and historical richness of the region served on a platt er of tranquillity.

Tzaneen Country Lodge is so much more than can be described in the words of a tra- velling writer, so do yourself the favour and hop over to their venue — your senses will

certainly thank you. For further information, visit their website

Gr 5: Nusrath Bhuiyan, Jarrid Brummer en Lese-go Moremi.

Most Considerate Klofie in each class: Duiwelskloof Primary School honoured fourteen pupils for their considerate behaviour. At the back are Carli Coetzee, Meg-

an Kruger, Adriaan J van Rensburg, Abby James and James le Grange, and in the front row are Pheladi Masekwameng, Hlogi Senyolo, Stella Nkuna, Donovan Miller, Phe-

tole Mahasha, Tshepiso Morwat-shehla and Dimpho Modika. Two pupils, Mpho Malatji and Keratilwe Mohale were absent when the pho-to was taken.

It was a night of boots, cowboy hats and line dancing in the Pla-sie barn, when the staff members of Merensky High School enjoyed a final party for the year. Corn on the cob, rib burgers, nachos and salsa filled the hungry bellies, while the sweets of candy buf-fet raised the sugar levels of all the cowboys and cowgirls who

danced the night away. A bevy of teaching beauties in the pho-to booth showed just how much the night was enjoyed: in front are Mss Theunet van Zyl, Anneke le Roux, Wendy Dreyer, Chelsea Johnston and Sunette Stander, and at the back are Mss Izelle du Preez, Wilna van Niekerk, Nadia Last and Danielle Rautenbach

Hierdie week wil Oubal

egter ‘n paar rakbiegeeste groet, en laat hy sommer by Eddie Jones begin.

“Goodbye is the saddest song...” — John Edmond

kampioen gekroon.

Unicorn’s medal-lists during the Top 8 gala held at Unicorn Preparatory School are, in the front: Kyle van Tonder (gold in boys u.10 relay), Luca Wasley (silver in breaststroke and gold in butterfl y), Max Drewett (bronze in backstroke), Kian None (gold in boys u.10 relay), Jack Stewart (gold in backstroke) and Talent Ndadzibaya (bronze in the individ-ual medley and silver in backstroke). Back: Tayla Coad (bronze for freestyle and sil-ver for breaststroke).

Unicorn Preparatory School’s u.11 Mad Dog cricket team enjoyed a strong season, progressing undefeated to the league fi nal against Julian Muller Primary at Ooskool in Polokwane. Uni-corn opted to bowl in the fi rst innings and enjoyed a strong start — with Devon Coad and Hendrik Botes each taking one of the opening batsmen in

the fi rst two overs. The next two bats-men, however, proved a stronger part-nership and helped propel Unicorn’s opponents towards their fi nal total of 223/7. This impressive total proved to be too much for the Mad Dogs on the day, and they were limited to 131/10. The Mad Dogs fi nally came second in the Limpopo medium schools cricket

league. Seen here are the team me-bers. In the front are Christiaan Swart, Michael Scriven, Juan van der Walt, Christian Kruger, Kyle Alison, Emeka Ezenwugo and Joshua Burman. Back: Hendrik Botes (capt), Angus Lough-er-Clark, Devon Coad, Valley Ngobeni, Joshua Wood, Tristan Dale and Peter Pratt (vice-capt).

Staatmaker Ricus groet Merensky Boogskiet

Ricus Warmenhoven

Unicorn Preparatory School in Tzaneen is very proud of Reuben Middleton, who has been included in the Limpopo cycling team.
