Massive l i n t e l s span three front doors for f i r e engines, and the single doors to each side of them; additional projecting cornice pieces above doors; no comer voussoirs on f i r s t floor; second floor with three bays of three windows each, to match the engine bays below; windows with six-over-six lights; massive cornice-like string course sep- arates f i r s t and second floors; another occurs above windows of second floor; parapet*

Alterations new doors for fire-engine bays SIGNIFICANCE This was b u i l t by the city of Houston Heights to serve originally as city hall and f i r e house, combined. I t also served as the j a i l of the town for a while-I t remains in use as a f i r e station. Architect Pigg also designed the Beaconsfield Apartments on Main Street, Houston.
