System Overview

The BMS (Building Management System) is an interface between people, the building automation system and the equipment attached to it. The plant equipment is managed and supervised via the Building Management System. It receives and processes status and fault signals and passes these on in addition to organising maintenance activities.

It also archives and collects operating and system data and then makes this available to other applications. As a central management location, we know the Building Management System must be easy to operate. Transparency, clearly structured equipment diagrams and clear texts are very important. Openness and the ability to understand and process different protocols is

vital in order to integrate different systems, buildings, and rd party manufacturers into a central management system. Equipment can be economically and effectively operated with the GLT Building Management System, which lowers maintenance and operation costs and cares for your investment. This is supported by automatic

maintenance plans, the ability to evaluate operational data in trend curves or to use the data for office applications. The Kieback&Peter Building Management System fulfils all these requirements. We offer the latest Building Management System, designed to the requirements of our customers.

User Interface of the BMS Control Center –Intuitive and easy to useThe Kieback&Peter control centers are distinguished by their intuitive user interface. The user is led through the facility in a simple, clear and structured manner. On demand, a dynamic site-map shows you where you are located at every moment. The interface is driven by buttons, scroll menus and user defined plain text for maximum transparency and clear operation. In addition, there is a logical user guide so that even users who have not used the system for some time will feel confident straightaway.

The BMS Control Center interface leaves nothing to desire, and the user-guide goes beyond pure operation. At any time, the interface can also be expanded by the user to suit his/her own specifications. Unlike typical visual display systems, there is no need for programming or script language. Facility drawings, dynamic inserts and quick query tables can be set up at any time via menu driven commands.

Architecture of the BMS Control Center – The foundation for universal application

In every BMS Control Center over 0 different processes are simultaneously running. As a whole, these processes make possible the BMS Control Center’s universal application. It is important to know that in each BMS Control Center a server and a client are at work. The server’s role is to make available BMS information. To this effect, a powerful BMS database and direct communication access to all information concerning the operational facility is at the server’s disposal. The client, on the other hand, is responsible for user interface presentation and processing. Queries

are forwarded to the server and the answers are graphically represented. The client and server are normally located inside a single computer, but can in principle be located in separate computers or even in separate operating systems. The graphic client can, for example, run under the Microsoft Windows operating systems such as Windows 000 or XP and communicate via a network with the BMS Control Center. In virtue of this variable and flexible concept, the Kieback&Peter BMS control technology can be structured according to users’ specifications.

Utilizing Information – DDE/OLE – OPC – ODBC

The Building Management System data can be accessed directly with standardized interfaces such as DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) and OLE (Object Linking and Embedding). The Building Management System therefore becomes an integral component of information management. The data can be used, for example, by Facility Management and by Accounts, for statistical purposes or with further individual applications. Access is possible both via a network and through a modem connection.

With OPC (OLE for process management), the extension of OLE, larger data point sets can be networked. Almost any visualization system and many applications, for example within the area of facility management, contain an OPC client and are able to exchange information with the BMS center. The BMS center stores historical data, such as temperature gradients or operating conditions in an SQL compatible database (database with standardized query). The evaluation of this data, such as in the form of trend curves, is an important task of the BMS center. The database of the BMS is also available for other applications via the ODBC (Open DataBase Connection) interface. Evaluate historical data at will, or create special statistics – the possibilities are nearly unlimited.

BACnet – The world standard for communication in building automation

BACnet is the world standard for communication at the management and automation levels of building automation. The Kieback&Peter Building Management System “speaks fluent” BACnet. A native BACnet data structure that maps one-to-one the standard BACnet objects has been implemented into the Building Management System. This enables the direct connection of all BACnet compatible products to the Building Management System. Kieback&Peter products can be connected to the BMS Control Centers via BACnet or the Kieback&Peter standard communications protocol P0. Through the direct conversion of BACnet data into BMS Control Center structures, the complexity and cost of adding products from other manufacturers via BACnet is also considerably reduced. From top to bottom, the Kieback&Peter Building Management System is tuned in to BACnet.

LonWorks® –Standard for open building automation across assembly sections

LonWorks® is the most widespread communi-cations protocol in building automation and a worldwide standard. As well as “speaking fluent” BACnet, the Kieback&Peter Building Management System also speaks fluent LonWorks. To this end, a native LON data structure that maps the standard network variables one-to-one according to the LonMark® standard, has been incorporated into the Building Management System. This enables the direct connection of all products conforming to the LonMark standard. With a simple scanning procedure, complete LonWorks networks can be imported. The direct mapping of LonWorks equipment with their standard network variables reduces the time spent on project planning when it comes to connecting products from other suppliers.

PHWIN – PHWEB –Easy operation without restrictions

PHWIN, a so-called Thin Client with 10 KB offers the possibility of operating the BMS interface from any Microsoft Windows operating system via a network or a modem connection without restrictions. With PHWEB the Kieback&Peter BMS centers can be operated with a conventional web browser. For this purpose the complete BMS user management system is converted into HTML.

Unrestricted access to the BMS functions is possible at any time through the operating system independent user interface transmission, even from locations other than the management center. Such access can also occur at the same time from different locations. The user interface transmission functions even with slower communication forms, for example via modem or mobile telephone. If required, the BMS center can communicate by SMS, mobile telephone, fax or by telephone. The BMS center also simultaneously maintains a connection to distant technical equipment and passes relevant information on to you.

The Neutrino-GLT fulfils the high safety requirements of Standard 1 CFR part 11 of the American Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). Thus, employment of the Neutrino-GLT is also possible in safety sensitive areas such as pharmaceutical or cosmetic production or in the field of medicine. Access security is ensured by professional user administration password management. The protocol function of the Neutrino-GLT notes each operator’s actions, therefore making processes transparent even years after the event. The data is archived on a CD and safeguarded from manipulation.

The Neutrino-GLT – Simple access from almost anywhere

It may frequently be the case that access to the Building Management System is required not only via the management center, but also from other locations such as office workstations, the security desk or directly in the service cabinet. The operating system independent user management transmission on the basis of photon technology makes this possible. In this way the Building

Management System can be supervised and operated from different locations at the same time. The user management transmission also functions with slow communication rates such as with modems or mobile telephones. The simple remote supervision and operation are optimal for on-call service or for quick access from variable mobile locations.

QnX –The real time compatible operating system of the BMS Control Center

The real time capable multi-user/multi-task operating system, QNX, is a guarantee for stability and hundred percent availability of the BMS centers.

QNX uses with a very compact micro-kernel architecture in which only the basic functions of the operating system operate. Network drivers, file systems, graphic drivers, etc. run outside of the micro-kernel in separate isolated program and memory areas. This architecture also effectively protects against computer viruses.
