● But also: uninterested adults, unwelcoming Scouts, disorganization
● Scouts stay for fun, being “given rope” in a supportive and welcoming environment.

3. Creating the perfect environment
Make sure Scouts feel welcomed, that the program is interesting and achievable, and, yes, fun of course. Make it so they want to be here.
Clear as many hurdles as possible to their future participation: physical, emotional/psychological, interpersonal, parental, financial. Make it so they can be here without barriers.
Focus on making them confident and as self-sufficient as possible. Proficiency comes later, after some (or many) iterations. If they stay in, they'll become proficient in the basic stuff. Provide them opportunities to gain confidence in their abilities within the program and their patrol and troop.

4. Success begets Success
○ It’s okay to start small
○ Cancel nothing, ever
○ Focus on a successful experience for everyone, then build on that success
○ Give your youth leaders as much more responsibility as than they can handle
○ Ask for help; if none, ask for money
