For crops like peas, oats, lentils, brown sarson and berseem wheat in veg- etative phase, the farm- ers have been advised to make clean drainage channels to avoid water logging in field. They have been asked to maintain recommend- ed plant-to-plant distance and hoeing, and apply first top dose of nitrogen in all the winter crops as per recommendations. GKNN MUKEET AKMALI Srinagar, Mar 7: In a significant initiative, National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) has decided to facilitate linkages between local IT players and national and international companies. Vice-President, NASSCOM, Rajiv Vaishnov, in an exclusive chat with Greater Kashmir shared that a team of NASSCOM has currently been here taking firsthand account of the IT infrastructure and other facilities in Kashmir. He said during their interac- tion with local IT professionals here the team was impressed with their talent. “The local IT professionals here have huge potential,” he said, adding that the NASSCOM has decided to con- nect the local IT players with interna- tional and national companies in order to create opportunities in the sector. “We had a meeting with the office bearers of the ICTA (a guild of local IT professionals in Kash- mir). The meeting explored options to improve our relations and find out ways to give boost to the IT sector in the Valley,” he said. To mention, NASSCOM is a trade association of Indian Informa- tion Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. Established in 1988, NASSCOM is a non-profit organization. NASSCOM is a global trade body with over 1500 members, of which more than 250 are companies from the US, UK, EU, Japan and China. NASSCOM member companies are in the business of software develop- ment, software services, software products, IT- enabled/BPO services and e-commerce. NASSCOM is headquartered in New Delhi, India with regional offices in the cities of Mumbai, Chen- nai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune and Kolkata. Chairman, Information and Communication Technology Associa- tion (ICTA), Mehraj Gulzar said the meeting was aimed to find ways to expand the local IT sector which, he alleged has over the years been suffer- ing due to government apathy. “We provided the NASSCOM team with all the information relat- ing to IT sector here. They were impressed and showed keenness to work with us,” he said. Gulzar said during the meeting the local IT players gave a presenta- tion of the “real skill” capabilities of the local IT vendors, and the local youth in the field. “Besides, NASSCOM was informed about the size of this indus- try in the state,” he said. “NASSCOM representatives were also informed about the problems faced by the local industry, including apathy of the government for not pro- viding an IT park which could enable the industry to grow.” Gulzar said though the IT indus- try has ample capacity to generate massive employment opportunities in the state, the government approach towards it is “disappointing.” Int’l buyer-seller meet begins today De-sealing: KEA welcomes resumption of business activities Srinagar, Mar 7: The Inter- national Buyer-Seller meet being organized by Kashmir Chamber of Commerce will be inaugurated on Saturday. As many as 70 foreign buyers from various coun- tries will participate. Local stakeholders and handicraft traders have set up stalls at SKICC, the venue of the meet, to highlight the Kashmir’s handicraft items made by the local artisans. President, KCCI, Sheikh Ashiq said more than 50 buyers arrived today and rest will join tomorrow. Srinagar, Mar 7: Kashmir Economic Alliance today expressed satisfaction over the resumption of business activities in commercial com- plexes which had remained closed for more than five months after their sealing by the government. A recent law passed by the government has paved way for de-sealing of these complexes. Chief spokesper- son, KEA, Siraj Ahmad said: “The business establish- ments in these complexes suffered huge losses during the period they remained under seal. We are happy today that the business activ- ities have been resumed in these complexes.” Meanwhile, the KEA has appealed the financial insti- tutions and banks to “have sympathetic consideration towards these businessmen and adopt a soft approach in recoveries from them.” KEA has also appealed the government to bring about necessary changes in the Master Plan so as to give relief to the businesspersons who have invested hugely in these complexes. PRESS TRUST OF INDIA New Delhi, Mar 7: The Reserve Bank will issue new bank licences in a few weeks, after seeking approv- al of the Election Commis- sion, Governor Raghuram Rajan said today. Over two dozen public and private sector applicants, including India Post, IFCI and large business houses such as the Anil Ambani group and the Aditya Birla group, have applied for bank licences. The RBI is expected to issue only a few bank licences after completing due diligence. "My sense is, if all goes well we should be able to do it in a few weeks," RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan told report- ers after Finance Minister P Chidambaram addressed the central bank's board meeting. Rajan, however, added that the RBI would seek formal approval from the Election Commission before issuing the licences as the model of code conduct is in force. "Look, we have to (seek) the formal approval from the EC that announcing the bank licences will be okay. A number of people have said it will, but it would be best that the process is formally approved by the EC," he said, adding that the process was started last year and was not a new proposal. Replying to questions on bank licences, Chidambaram said he had made no recom- mendations to the RBI, which had appointed the Bimal Jalan Committee to scruti- nise the applications. "The Jalan Committee report is before the RBI. I have not seen the Jalan Com- mittee report. The RBI will take appropriate decisions. If at some stage the Governor wishes to share its content with me, then I would be very happy to listen. But I don't intend to speak," the Finance Minister added. Rajan said an RBI panel is looking into the Jalan Com- mittee's report. "Once we (com- plete) due diligence, we will pass the report to the Commit- tee of the Board. After that, the decision on bank licences will be taken," he added. Last month, the Jalan panel submitted its report, along with shortlisted entities, to the Reserve Bank of India. Guidelines for setting up new banks were issued in Febru- ary 2013 and the last day for applications was July 1. The RBI received 27 appli- cations and subsequently, Tata Sons Ltd and Value Industries Ltd withdrew. $0.19 125.50 405.92 `181 `1,131 13 BUSINESS SRINAGAR | March 08, 2014, Saturday Greater Kashmir STOCKS CURRENCY Euro Pound Saudi Riyal Kuwaiti Dinar Dirham Yen Ch Yuan ` 84.97 `102.56 `16.30 `16.64 `0.59 `9.97 `217.53 Dollar Crude/Brl `61.07 $108.29 Sensex Nifty Gold24kt/10gm Silver /Kg 21919.79 6526.65 `30,028 `46,063 in Delhi SBI J&K Bank HDFC Bank PNB Axis Bank ICICI Bank BSE 1201.30 67.65 NSE 1201.90 67.95 BSE 443.95 23.00 NSE 444.10 23.25 BSE 375.70 29.85 NSE 375.90 30.10 BSE 617.05 22.00 NSE 617.15 22.35 BSE 1406.90 78.60 NSE 1406.80 77.30 BSE 711.35 35.85 NSE 711.45 35.85 BSE 1416.20 39.50 NSE 1413.65 33.00 BSE 1648.75 72.55 NSE 1649.65 72.25 `0.04 IMMEDIATE REQUIREMENT OF SALES EXECUTIVE / HELPERS Desirous Candidates ready to work with an Handicrafts Showroom in India are requested to send their Resume, Latest Photograph & Contact No. on below mentioned e-mail address at an earliest.
