    EKET NSE VISITS NYSC CAMP

T he Nigerian Society of Engi-

neers, visited the NYSC camp at Nsit-Atai L.G.A, on

the 20 August 2014, to carry out a

sensitization campaign for young engineering graduates to uphold

the ethics of the profession in

    their service year. Leading the

NSE team was the coordinator of the Young Engineers Forum of Ni-

    geria, Eket, Mr. Lawrence Akubue,

who informed the young graduates of the need to register with NSE as

    graduate member during their ser-

vice year. They were also enlight- ened about Young Engineers Fo-

rum of Nigeria (YEFON) which is

an arm of the Nigeria Society of

Engineers with a mandate to carter for its young members. The

    speaker, highlighted that the YE-

FoN offers a forum where young professionals can be prepared for

the future, pointing out that it is a

    platform for students and young

engineers to come together to dis- cuss professional development

and career options. They were in-

formed that the forum became necessary because students and

    graduate from university seeking a

satisfying career, are not aware of the benefits a professional society

like NSE can provide for them. Mr.

    Gabriel Okoli, YEFoN Secre-

tary, who also addressed the corps members, highlighted

the aim of the visit which

was to inspire young gradu- ates to develop interest in

    engineering, and, in doing

    so, recognize the importance

and excitement of engineer- ing as a career. He reiterated

on the need to have a forum

for Young Engineers to pro- mote and influence engineer-

    ing development in all its

ramifications in Nigeria, as well as to promote the ex-

    change of ideas and engi-

neering knowledge. The corps members were ex-

pected in turn to get to regis-

ter as graduate members of NSE and also to join their

    respective engineering sub-

divisions. On this note , the

requirements for each cate- gory of membership in NSE

portunity to raise vital issues as regards the

challenges they face as young professionals, which borders on the employment rate and pro-

fessional development. They also made certain

demands regarding their welfare, requesting for more guidance on registration. They also de-

manded for NYSC placement that is based on

profession, calling for more technical training

for graduate members to prepare them for the job market, as well as establishing a job desk
