Great Migration
• The Great Migration was started by an estimate of 6 million African Americans moving from the South to North.
• Where they seek economic stability in the North where as they did not find in the south.
• This led to more mix neighborhoods and a clashing of different culture.
• Starting early in the 20th century most occupied that housed migrated African Americans included the following: Detriot, Chicago, Delaware and New York City.
• These cities increased dramatically overall 40 percent of its original population because of the migration.
• Industrial jobs became abundant in these rural areas that attracted not only African American workers but European workers that started to compete for jobs and housing.
Living in Bronzeville
• The hostile of the recent migrated African Americans and the Europeans drew a bigger altercation between them that eventually led to the African Americans and the Europeans having their own sides in the cities.
• In the cities of Chicago and New York eventually had there own names which Bronzeville became also known as “black metropolis.”
California
• During the second migration that took place at the same time of world war II brought over more than 5 million migrate workers stretching between the Midwest and the West.
• These occupations included moving to the state California where they would live at Los Angeles, Oakland, and Long Beach
• Many jobs that were offered included mainly in the defense industry and naturally these migrated workers were more educated.
Little Tokyo downfall
• During world war II After the Bombing of pearl harbor the Japanese that lived in Little Tokyo had to move into interment camps
• The government could not trust the Japanese that lived in the united states for the possibility of endangering our country.
• When the Japanese had left eventually the African Americans Took over the neighborhood and that’s when they renamed it for awhile Bronzeville.
Importance of history
• People would question why the importance of researching the history of Los Angeles would be a topic to research we believe that knowing what was or what is now is of great importance of future generation.
• Today many people would not know that our flourishing Little Tokyo use to be known as Bronzeville a city that not only introduce a knew form of culture to California but also left its own foot print in the city we know today.
